No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here

Since his immortality depends entirely on Slaanesh, it's also possible it won't work if he loses to someone under the protection of another Chaos God or the Emperor. So that means the Chosen of other Chaos Gods, Abaddon the Despoiler , Living Saints like Celestine, etc.
That or other gods or god-like beings like the C'tan shards, the Avatar of Khaine, the Yncarne, T'au'va, or the Emperor.

That's kind of similar to Lelith Hesperax's plan to bypass Lucius' possession if she beats him in a duel. She plans to fight him when he's separated from his armor and while they're in Commorragh. The idea is that if they fight in a place where Slaanesh's reach is weaker due to being in the Webway and assuming the immortality is tied to the armor, then in theory Lucius wouldn't be able to possess her.

Disgusted, but not surprisedCommorragh is in the Webway, and the Webway inherently resists intrusion from the Warp. Daemons who do manage to breach it have to tread carefully lest the Webway's "antibodies" (Warp Spiders) attack them. That's what prevents Slaanesh from devoting full attention to Commorragh and its Drukhari population. It's also why The Thirst isn't as strong in Commorragh compared to realspace.
One issue with the armor removal plan is that it might not even be possible to remove Lucius from the armor anymore. It's too much a part of him now.

Disgusted, but not surprisedDoes Lucius' armour recreate itself around the host, looking exactly as it was originally? Because I see massive conversion-potential if his body and armour adapt themselves to the host. For instance, a Tyranid-possessing Lucius could have a chitinous armour, with the Blade of Laer morphing into a bone-sword. Or then a Necron-Lucius could be kitbashed with bits from a Cryptek and Necron Warriors. Or an Ork-born Lucius could be morphed with a squig to manifest the tongue-whip.
Man, I saw this place that had a lot of Necrons that would make a FINE ADDITION to my collection.
But I had to make sure my cousin could eat, and I promised to treat her if she did good in her exam.
Curse you adulthood and having to take care of kids that aren't even my own!
I have no idea how good the void dragon is, but I am in the market for new Overlords.
I still need to finish the one I have, plus those 3 exalted Thousand Sons sorcerors. Maybe today.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Story-wise, the Void Dragon is the most powerful C'tan of them all. This thing once tanked multiple Blackstone Fortresses — as in the superweapons specifically created to bring down C'tan.
But I still can't get past how its model doesn't look much like a dragon.
Gameplay-wise, the Void Dragon's rules make him vehicles' worst nightmare. Which is appropriate given he's supposed to be the C'tan of technology.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd it's possible Big E might not have even fought it but instead tricked it into imprisonment. Which isn't to say Big E couldn't have fought it on equal terms — he likely wanted to use the Void Dragon for some purpose on Mars.
major spoilers for another piece of media: And in the Rogue Trader crpg game, the Void Dragon shard is so powerful that if you join with it, you go on to wipe out every Necron Tombworld in the galaxy. And if you were a Heretic before this, the Chaos Gods are utterly helpless to interfere despite their fury at this betrayal. The Void Dragon's power in the Materium easily surpasses theirs.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAlthough instead of making it more powerful, eating so many other C'tan just drove it completely batshit. The whole reason it imprisoned itself is because the voices of the other C'tan were driving it mad.
It was a master stroke by Cegorach alright.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI'd say that you could go ham on a Lucius conversion anyway. If anyone demands a lore explanation, you can say that Lucius was killed by a Swarmlord and Slaanesh took a sudden interest in the Hive Mind, fascinated by the sensations that such a titanic entity might experience (and enjoying the pain of the Shadow in the Warp.)
Behold! Lord Phostekh of the Nihilakh dynasty, and his merry cohorts.
After the Thousand Sons, I decided to go more simple for this one, I was aiming for the Necron Overlord to look inhumanely clean to represent the bougie nature of the Nihilakh dynasty but he came out looking more weathered than I intended, I think it's the gun metal paint I used, but I wanted those little details.
He does look better taken care of compared to that poor Warrior on the left.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"So a couple of hours ago, I had a pretty extensive talk with a Necron player who was really passionate about the lore, he is a proud Sautekh player who really dislikes the Silent King, blamed him for all the issues of the Necron race, and is an Imotekh supporter, had the model and everything.
Really great at kitbashing, and made his own Overlord. Seriously, that looks fantastic, I've got a LONG way to go before I can even approach that level of quality.
We had a good chat, and I was pretty upfront I signed my Overlord's faction to be part of the Nihilakh Dynasty because of their lore, and I love Trazyn, but I was pretty clear my guy was not with the Silent King for ideological reasons and enjoys being a murder robot, but the rewards promised were good and I am allowed to mostly do my own thing till I get orders.
But I'm curious about this thread's thoughts, for those who follow Necron lore, where do you stand on the whole Sautekh vs Szarekhan political conflict?
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Imotekh's full revanchist. He wants the Necrontyr Empire to rise again. He's everything wrong with them.
So a good fit for 40k really.
Szarekh otoh is focused wholly on trying to press the Reset Button on his biggest mistake. He fucked up and he knows he fucked up, making him a rare exception to the general lack of self-awareness plaguing the galaxy.
Disgusted, but not surprised

It is pretty funny that Lucius is the worst off by far of all the Chaos Champions.
Kharne at least is an unstoppable killing machine, Typhus gets to surpass Mortarion and mock him, and Ahriman is one of the most powerful sorcerors and has the genuine favor of Tzeentch against his wishes, which really isn't a good thing because Tzeentch genuinely considers outright soul erasure to be a gift.
But Lucius? There's barely any upsides aside from the tactical advantage of immortality through possession, and he's in a constant state of humiliation knowing none of victories are real, only his defeats.
It feels fitting because the EC are THE most depraved of the mono God traitor legions.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
