No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here

Not really an Eldar fan, that'd be my 2nd ex-girlfriend who I'm still good friends w/ and keep in touch, but w/o the Ynnari I have no idea what else is interesting happening in the Eldar. As a guy who likes theorizing army builds, it's a shame that there's no easy and legal way to combine Craftworld and Dark Eldar units together if they truly are going to phase out the Ynnari as a playable faction.
Set! Avenge! "Henshin." Black General! Bujin Sword! Ready, Fight!I would love an edition where they decide to go absolutely ham on alien factions. After all, a variety of aesthetics can be a draw for more players.
T'au with wacky auxiliaries! Codex: Ynnari! Tamed horrible gravity monsters for the Votann!
...Exodites.
I know it's not gonna happen, but wouldn't it be neat?

Specifically Loyalist Space Marines. It's this edition where Assault Intercessors finally got jump packs after all.
No idea about Orks but Necrons do get a new Lord variant w/ the melee-oriented Skorpekh Lord. Also no longer able to buy Codices since they're all apparently hardcover now instead of pdf files.

Exodite Dino Riders will most likely get me to buy those models and learn how to paint. For Necrons, really wish there were official Flayer King models.

Set! Avenge! "Henshin." Black General! Bujin Sword! Ready, Fight!Yeah, if I’m going to invest in the Xenos, I’d probably go Necron since they are the only ones who are improved by retcons from GW.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
Regarding Necrons, a friend and I joked that after the 5th ed retcon you'll know if a Necron Lord is still sentient and extravagant if it shows up having 5 arms and multiple legs. Then GW began selling Skorpekh Lords who're Multi-Melee Masters by virtue of having multiple arms for melee and multiple bladed feet for more melee. Then there's also the Necron Lord and Lychguard team who're a riff on Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

It's interesting how the retcons turned Necrons from being a race of soulless and emotionless robots to a race of (still) soulless and psychopathic robots. Necrons are either mentally shut down to keep from internally screaming forever or hyper focused on various obsessions to drown out said screaming.
It sucks to be a Necron.

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()
One of the reasons I love the Necrons are how the ones who are most focused on something like gathering things or extermination, are the ones most mentally put together because they have something to help them through the constant pain of existence.
Mad respect for that kind of hustle.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"At least Necrons didn't wind up being Tomb Kings In Space as they have a wider variety of personality. On the flipside, Tomb Kings, especially those like Queen Khalida, are more likely to be somewhat friendly so long as you don't think of stealing their stuff.
Set! Avenge! "Henshin." Black General! Bujin Sword! Ready, Fight!Yeah, this is what I mean when the retcons have made the Necrons better, besides enslaving the C’tan, their leaders actually get to have a personality. I’ve noticed in Dark Crusade, their lord doesn’t really speak or emote, so their convert has to rep them.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"A bit late, but in fairness to GW it isn't as if the Xenos have been starving as of late:
- Full Ork refresh including new Subarmy
- New T'au Subarmy
- Full Aeldari refresh
- Major Tyranid refresh
- Major Necron refresh
- New army: Leagues of Votann
I really wish they slow down on the space marines, but this is really good for the past 5 or so years

I am Perfection. The enemy of GoodMost people here only engage with the lore so any gameplay additions will not satisfy them.
I've heard talk that the Eldar are quite OP and fun on the tabletop in contrast to how many Ls they take writing wise.

She is more dangerous than those.
