No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

While those Night Lords are cool, I'd get this box simply for the Mandrakes. Hope they might become available separately at some point, because I would have a lot of use for demonic shadow-Elves. I could see these used in AOS as Elves connected to the Shadow Realm, but they would also fit in great as Twilight Kin in Kings of War.

I'm loving all these new Kroot models. What little armour and clothing the Kroot and Krootox wear, it reminds me of Maori and other Pacific Islanders. Looks like GW are making it easier to field all-Kroot armies.

Glad to see the Solar Auxilia finally become available in plastic, because I've always liked their Diesel Punk-ian look.

Given the update to the Kroot models, anyone mind if I replace the current Kroot picture on Warhammer 40,000: T'au Empire with one of these two?

I'm leaning more towards the second, personally.

[up][up] Either of those is good, but I lean toward this one for the variety of weapons, the more dynamic look of the one on the right, and the smaller Kroot species.

I've also gone ahead and swapped in the new Ethereal pic on the T'au page.

Today on Warhammer Community for Necromunda: Yageloth the Master of Whispers, a Delaque assassin. I always like wrist mounted blades.

[up]Damn cool! He looks like a Sith Lord crossed with a Tech-priest. In the artwork his blade looks like it's made from energy, so I would try to paint it glowing.

Double-post: On this Heresy Thursday there is a preview of the next expansion for Horus Heresy, with a look at the Shattered Legions and Blackshields. I quite like the black-and-gold colour scheme of those Blackshields, particularly the ones with World Eater's helmet-wings.

Latest balance updates are up and wow someone at GW had it in for Chaos Marines. Every unit that was showing up in tournaments went up in points, every stratagem and list-building trick from those tournaments got worse.

"So the two big things that make this list overpowered are 1) Chosen units with Chaos Lords and Undivided marks sitting in Nurgle Rhinos to abuse Dark Obscuration to be hard to interact with until they can jump out and start killing with Profane Zeal, and 2) Accursed Cultists are too durable and have relatively high OC per model, making them incredibly good objective holders."
"OK, now transports have to share a mark with the units in them and Accursed Cultists regenerate less."
"That should do a lot, sir-"
"Also both Dark Obscuration and Profane Zeal should be worse."
"Fair enough-"
"And Accursed Cultists should also have worse OC and cost more."
"Sir, I think you're getting a little carried away."
"And I want to see everything that shows up in tournaments made more expensive. Chaos Lords and Chosen in particular; I want a surcharge on every combined unit equal to an entire Cultist Mob."
"(Sigh) Yes, sir."
"Oh, and add a unit tax for Daemonic allies as well."

[up]I love it! The steampunk-iness of the Solar Auxilia makes me want to collect a force of them. I'd like to kitbash them with the Death Korps of Krieg, so that I could convert them to look even more like a steampunk-version of a real-life 19th-century army.

Lotsa transcripts now and summaries for the The End and the Death: Volume III out and, while the end results are the same, the DETAILS and nuances are surprisingly different.

For example, the Emperor winning against Horus at a cost was expected. The Emperor disguised as Loken ganking Horus with an Athame, AFTER the latter disowned Chaos and depowering himself? Unexpected.

Isn't this literally the worst possible version of the Emperor? As in, he took all of his kindness, compassion, mercy, etc out of his soul and hid it away specifically for this fight? Makes sense, honestly, that he'd pull that kind of shit.

My favorite detail was how, despite all the weird methaphysical battles happening, ONE of them just happened to be Horus and Emps playing a simple card game against each other.

If I understand correctly, one of the early wedges with Horus was his wanting to try diplomacy with some aliens.

If so, Robute quietly admitting that he had a point millennia later is kind of bleakly funny.

I've said many times before that one of the real tragedies is that the Horus who wanted to overthrow the Emperor was no longer the one who would have been a strict upgrade.

By the way, if I wanted to write a short about the people immediately surrounding the Emperor, what would be a good story to find out who's there and what they're like?

depend on what period, by pre heresy you have Amon, malcador and many close, before you have in theory the perpetual and Erda.

Today on Warhammer Community: Kroot Hounds. Their reasonably good but I think they would look better if their quills were swept back rather than sticking up like a mohawk.
