He did the impossible and manage to leave. And it's not how many threads he made, but the fact that he managed to be in each one of them in order to remind everyone how much he hated the show hint. He also liked to rage about how overrated TTGL was (he liked it, but as a big Super Robot fan, he loathed the hype and the fanbase), about how Moe is the worst thing to happen in the history of anime, about how disgusted he was with the kind of society that produces those kind of shows and how figurines of girls in fetishistic outfits sell so well that Gainax produces more Yokos than Gurren Laganns.
I miss him.
It sounds like he had a point.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I know, but that was the trope I thought of. I knew it didn't fit quite right though.
Yeah, [AOD] is rude, but it's funny so that's okay. If he wasn't such a jerk all the time, then something would be wrong.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I think that THX had a problem with the fanbase more than anything else. Oh, and constantly being told that the source material filled everything in when he argued that any anime should be based upon its own merits and what it covers, rather than the material it's based off of.
Him and Excel did bring up some good points, but each of them just eventually stopped posting here. I think I've seen Excel in the game forums, but I haven't seen THX in a while.
>Much more interesting is: Why is this discussion going on in a century old thread instead of, you know, the unofficial "everything Haruhi goes in here" thread?
Because this is the first thread ctrl-f found.

I have a top hat. Your Argument is invalid.By the way (no, I haven't read whole topic) - Am I only one who belives that Haruhi is Deconstruction of some kind of Mary Sue, especially Black Hole Sue? There is something in it, I feel so.
Given that we have the series listed under Deconstructor Fleet, no, probably not.
Edit: Although apparently that trope is not Deconstruction? Huh. Well, I agree with you anyway.

Well, she could be called a literal Black Hole Sue. Being "god" or something similar, of course the world is going to revolve around you. She draws all attention to herself. Characters don't act naturally around her (the Organization). The very laws of the universe bend to accommodate her (literally). And so on.
It only makes sense because she's that greater being. However, she's also an egocentrical jerkass and according to my interpretation of her, she is that way because she's a Black Hole Sue.
So yeah, you could make an argument for her being a deconstructed Black Hole Sue.
I always thought that she was just overcompensating for the fact that she rationally realizes that she's completely normal and not at all unique, so she actively defies the expectations of others in order differentiate herself from the group.
Of course, she doesn't know that she has all these powers, and if she did she'd either be massively pleased, or destroyed from the mental stress. Can't really see there being a middle ground on that one.
Grahf—your interpretation is supported by canon. Haruhi goes so far as to explain the moment she realized she was insignificant and decided that she would need to do something about it. And this was before the moment she became....whatever she is, as I recall.
I never thought Haruhi was a self-centered Jerkass because she was a Black Hole Sue. I thought she was self-centered Jerkass naturally, and the Black Hole Sue-dom just reinforced that behavior.
Which is part of why I think Kyon is such an important influence for her. He's the only person in her world—especially the SOS brigade part of it—who actually challenges her and makes her have to be the one to change, rather than making the world change for her. Whether consciously (through steamrollering them with her personality) or subconsciously (through her power). I haven't gotten far enough to know if my belief is justified, but I like to think that even subconsciously, she won't allow herself to change Kyon through her power.
Respect the Red Right Hand
It starts out as just Kyon's influence - and I think it's still really at that point in the anime - but I kind of get the impression that as the other novels go on, the other SOS Brigade members start to drive her change, too. Less overtly, since they go along with what she wants rather than call her out like Kyon does, but I do get the impression she's less inclined to just use them later on.
The owner of this account is temporarily unavailable. Please leave your number and call again later.Exactly. This is why I still find her sympathetic; it's like she's a spoiled little kid who never had a chance to go through char dev until she met Kyon because she gets what she wants even before she knows she wants it most of the time.
Also, did anyone else get the impression that after the ENOZ concert, she started to suspect the existence of her powers? 'Cause the expression on her face when they thanked her made me think she was thinking something along the lines of, "It was a coincidence. Why am I feeling so guilty? It was a passing thought: 'Hey, playing in a rock band sounds really cool!'
"... it was a passing thought, and she broke her fingers." Cue internal freakout that gets shouted down as an overreaction.
Maybe it's just me.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!You know, Haruhi and Kyon are very important to the story, but the character that surprized me the most was Nagato. She is easily the most fleshed out one and the one that develops the most through the series, to the point I could say that the same way Star Wars was about Darth Vader and Metal Gear Solid was about Ocelot, The Saga Of Haruhi Suzumiya is actually about Yuki.
That's not
. It's practically Word of God. He's said she's his favorite character, at least.

I blame THX.
