Last year? Damn. First I've heard of it as well.

He hadn't written anything good since Sphere. Not to disrespect the dead, but art hasn't lost much.

Amen to that.

When did he become such a Luddite, anyway? Was he always like that?

He was pretty awesome back when he was writing about medical stuff — stuff he knew about, being a doctor. Andromeda Strain, The Terminal man — all of that was excellent.

Oh yeah, that's right, he wrote those books!

At some point his books started reading like Hollywood movies. Just wasn't the same. So sad.

Do you think that was around the time Hollywood started making his books into movies?

Also, it wasn't Michael Crichton who wrote The Great Train Robbery, was it?

I wrote about a fish turning into the moon.

According to my calculations, the universe has a framerate of 10 hentetracontillion FPS.

Doesn't take much calculation. The Planck time is 5.39 x 10 ^ -44 seconds, so...

Oooh, more accurate number... 18.6 hentetracontillion FPS, then.

Too much graphics, not enough game balance.

Down with racism!

Waaaagh! TV Tropes The TV Show is driving me nuts! I'm stuck trying to make an epic plot work while characters (mine included) are constantly revised in ways that makes me toss out pages of material at a time. Some characters are blatantly Suish, overpowered, or intentionally plot-derailing...and that's if they're characterization is consistent (which it isn't for my character). Would everyone who is trying to hog the spotlight at least try to come up with something as interesting as the stuff already around?

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

Aww. I had no idea. I'd help, but I've lost track of what's what, seeing as I have no microphone and, currently, no voice. I'd hug you, but then you'd probably lose your voice, too. *sends Ironeye a hug Golem*

I have a really lousy cold. I was supposed to be meeting friends of mine today at the bowling alley at 12:00, and I haven't seen them in months because they've all been at university. I got woken by a phonecall asking where the heck I was at 12:20 this morning, and when I tried to reply, I discovered I had no voice. So today is pretty lame.

Honestly, dude, is this really that surprising to you? I knew it'd be like this the moment someone suggested "TV Tropes The TV Show".

[AOD]: Good riddance. Fucker was an asshole climate skeptic.

So am I. I acknowledge that the climate is changing, but the climate has been changing ever since Earth developed an atmosphere. Why should this latest round be considered anything special? And why should I buy into all of the "the planet is dying!!" rhetoric coming from government and the scientific establishment?

Also, we denounce scientists who work for industry and accuse them of cooking their data to get funding; why don't we believe the same of scientists who get their funding from the government?

Remember, kids: nobody complained when the cyanobacteria dumped massive quantities of oxygen into the atmosphere. The plants aren't complaining too much about us dumping carbon dioxide.

There weren't any humans to complain back then. Also, I have yet to see any proof that global warming is in anyone's interest, least of all the government's.

From what I gather, this latest change is rather more extreme than anything on record. I neither know nor care whether it's natural or caused by man, but I'd rather we didn't make it worse.

Argh. This is among the most common questions posed by layman climate skeptics, up there with the sunspot theory.
