...School was cancelled most of last week so now everyone's a bit behind. Getting a break while sick was nice. Having to come back while still feeling sorta icky is not. Stupid sinuses.
Some students came by. Helped them out a bit. I liked doing that. Wish it happened more often.
Having pizza for lunch. The fetus seems to like it. Like a little victory dance or something.
Last night the Super Bowl had a series of promos for a 24 sequel thing set partly in London. The last one showed Jack Bauer helping a woman out of a firefight. The woman looked like Eve Myles, and I started thinking about the impossibility of a 24/Torchwood crossover that would actually get me to watch.
Fresh-eyed movie blogSo this doesn't have anything to do with Dr. Who really, but I think some of the people in this thread might get something out of it: Fossil Angels, an article on magic by the bearded prophet of Northampton, Alan Moore.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI wonder if a Dalek retelling of the Time of the Doctor will be named "Remembrance of the Doctor". .
Any news of upcoming episodes and suchlike? I seem to recall they would start in the fall, but do we have anything solid?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!I like Delta and the Bannermen. I think of it whenever I eat a steak sandwich, cos I was eating one when I first watched it.

But equally, what would that have looked like? Some story in which the Doctor renounces his manipulative ways? One where he finally, triumphantly, justifies his approaches? God help us, one where, for once and for all, the implications of all of this are fixed and rooted for good? How utterly dreadful.
It seems to me that the natural way to extend Seven's manipulation into a coherent arc would be to have him become increasingly distant and inhuman, and then have him be undermined in a final story by underestimating some ordinary people. A bit like Midnight, if that stewardess hadn't been on the ball. Maybe even have Ace being the one doing the deed? Of course, I think that even if they did get another few series with Seven, in the television landscape of the time they probably wouldn't think in terms of modern-day post-Buffy arcs.
Interestingly, I think that's clearly what RTD was trying to do with Ten towards the end. Unfortunately, he just comes across as bipolar, and then suddenly decides to be TIME LAWD VICTORIUS in the last five minutes of Waters of Mars (and then changes his mind).
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.Equally, this is not, to my mind, the sort of grave moral sin that some people want to make it into. Let's not forget that the Doctor backs down from his original position in Genesis of the Daleks but is stymied in destroying them. Sarah Jane, arguably the moral center of the series at that point, argues passionately for destroying the Daleks. It's not entirely clear that we're supposed to side with the Doctor in Genesis of the Daleks, nor is it entirely clear that we're supposed to side with him here. But it's not a great departure. The Doctor has caused the destruction of huge numbers of Daleks before. Just two seasons ago we were supposed to overlook the genocide of the Vervoids. Troughton was never above wiping out a few species here and there. Including a pretty blatant attempt on the Daleks that included letting those with the human factor die. Yes, the Doctor obliterates Skaro. Let's be honest. He does things like that.
Dammit unoun! *Takes a shot*
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI can't drink.
Where is the link to the drinking game? I haven't looked at it in a while.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Didn't we delete the one about The Eruditorum Guy mentioning us when he became a poster?
...It's been a while since he's shown up actually. He's usually fun to have around.
An argument between him and Medicus would be amazing.
...Huh, it's been about a month since the last time he posted. Weird.

Wack'd isn't all that much fun when he argues.
Some people just want to watch the thread burn.
Its you. You're those people.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI want to watch everything burn Bocaj, you should know that about me by now.
Of course, I don't want senseless destruction. I want something good or interesting or at least mildly entertaining to come out of it.
