Classic series, new series, Whoniverse, expanded universe... 'tis all welcome here.

Please be considerate and tag spoilers wherever possible.
  • Tag all spoilers for the latest episode, for any previews or content leaks, and for all off-topic works (e.g. if comparing a Doctor Who story to a Star Trek one)
  • Spoilers for a season finale (or for any standalone special or expanded universe story) should remain tagged for at least a month after it's released.

When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which show and episode will they spoil?).

[up][up]True, but he kinda fucked up with feminism a bit with Sarah's introduction. Making a cynical joke out of it. Making a big deal of a woman being a monarch.

Feminism was a big thing culturally in the 70s. The fact that Doctor Who failed to deal with it adequately or respectfully at that point is. Well. Um.

[up]Terrance Dicks was still in charge when "The Time Warrior" was written. And it was he who conceived of Sarah Jane as, one supposes, a way to shut down feminist critique of the show. So if Robert Holmes wrote her within those confines, it's probably because he wanted to keep his job.

And "The Monster of Peladon" was Brian Hayes, not Holmes.

[up][up]Boooo, hissssss.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Sarah Jane was only a feminist for maybe her first few serials? The character trait got dropped after that. Which is a shame but also somewhat of a relief because I'm pretty sure a bunch of middle aged blokes in the Seventies would have got it wrong.

I'll admit, as a white straight man, I do occasionally feel a twang of guilt over not really "getting" the feminist critique of Moffat.

[down]Also that.

At times an individual just wants to stop having the pressure of being awesome all the time.

Also because I didn't eat before going to see it and I was really hungry.

[up] I also like white chocolate.

White chocolate was originally a waste product. In some countries serving it is in breach of the Geneva convention.

Hey, do you mind if I tell you a story? One you might not have heard. All the elements in your body were forged many, many millions of years ago, in the heart of a far away star that exploded and died. That explosion scattered those elements across the desolations of deep space. After so, so many millions of years, these elements came together to form new stars and new planets. And on and on it went. The elements came together and burst apart, forming shoes and ships and sealing wax, and cabbages and kings. Until eventually, they came together to make you. You are unique in the universe.

Memories. Stars eat memories. Except then a Briton comes along, and chokes it with her inherently superior colonialist stiff upper lip ways.

Lol. Aliens. They think they're people.

Well, if stars are sapient in Doctor Who (which 42 kinda implies) maybe they committed suicide because they're billions of miles away from their other star friends all the time. Very lonely, being a star.
