Classic series, new series, Whoniverse, expanded universe... 'tis all welcome here.

Please be considerate and tag spoilers wherever possible.
  • Tag all spoilers for the latest episode, for any previews or content leaks, and for all off-topic works (e.g. if comparing a Doctor Who story to a Star Trek one)
  • Spoilers for a season finale (or for any standalone special or expanded universe story) should remain tagged for at least a month after it's released.

When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which show and episode will they spoil?).

Free will is still in effect after reading the book. It's just that the consequences of choosing not to do what you're recorded to have done is worse than almost anything you're fated slated to do. As shown in The Wedding of River Song.

(Medicus sez: don't violate the laws of causality kids, or you'll be forced to marry River Song!)

Because if so, you should probably know that originally, there was a handwave for that, but it was taken out because normal people didn't understand why it was needed.

A hand wave that leads to an ending that is supposed to be tragic is an extremely unsubtle way of emotional manipulation and will be seen as emotionally manipulative. It is bad writing.

[up][up][up]I barely know most of my cousins, so unfortunately I don't think I'd have much effect on the baby's life.

The cousin who lives in the house next door to mine has a nine year old who loves Daleks, though.

The Doctor has to do everything every book about him says because Land Of Fiction.

He should have kept that job instead of becoming a Time Lord.

Anyway, the TARDIS Eruditorum has actually read that book about Doctor Who and Race. And it's apparently not that bad. And The Daily Mail sucks. Which isn't news.

Well, Two did say that if he used the power of fiction then he'd become a character in a book and have to follow the narrative.

And Eleven did say that we're all stories in the end.

Seems pretty clear cut.

He said if he wrote himself into the narrative, at least directly, he'd be trapped forever.

@Nicknacks: It's totally a thing. Gulliver totally said that the Doctor was a traitor to the Land Of Fiction. You can't be a traitor to a thing you were never part of or affiliated with.

I'm pretty sure the idea is an invention of Sandifer's.

Gulliver was also apparently speaking solely in quotes from his books.

Sooooooo, yeah.

Oddly reminds me of Jeff from Scud the Disposal Assassin. But more literaturey. And yet both very black and white.

At the Calgary Expo Torchwood panel, someone asked John Barrowman if Captain Jack had ever been to the Planet Transsexual in the Galaxy of Transylvania. He hadn't heard of it, but once it was explained to him, he thought Jack ought to visit.

Matt Smith sure is an interesting individual.

And Vengeance on Varos isn't bad but its kind of sad that its the best serial Six has to offer.

I'd recommend The Two Doctors, but I think I recall that it's three 45-minute parts, and it'd be cheating to make him share the spotlight.

The Two Doctors is only bearable because Patrick Troughton is in it. Not even because he's written particularly well, Patrick Troughton just makes everything better.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
