I'm inclined to imagine a canon elemental as being composed of all narrative, character or setting elements that have been officially confirmed: if a character is known to be heterosexual, they perceive it as an attractive female; if that same character is afraid of bugs, it's also a giant spider; if the writers have told us how energy weapons work then it has energy weapons; etc. Given the sheer number of such elements, I imagine that it would bring to bear only a subset at a given time, but it might be able to alter which subset, and I imagine that it's different for each party member confronting it (even if they're doing so at the same time).

I like the idea that the Canon Elemental is whatever you think it is. People can argue for hours about what the Canon Elemental actually is, and nobody will actually be objectively right.

EDIT: But it has to be what the SUMMONER thinks it is. If it were what the viewer thought it was, that would be Fanon Elemental.

I'm surprised they were able to hear Redcloak's instructions to it.

Vanilla and custard elementals would not surprise me, considering we do have a ranch dressing plane... tongue

I wonder if the Custard Elemental is more crème pat then crème anglaise? I think the patisserie would pack more physical damage...

Wait a sec. They're talking about the world in the rift. I thought Roy didn't know about it yet. V did tell him? Then what was with all the "Greenhilt doesn't know the full consequences of this!" hesitation?

I have a message from another time...

I'm surprised they were able to hear Redcloak's instructions to it.

Elan was the one who heard it. Perhaps it's a Dashing Swordsman thing to have the supernatural ability to pick up on weaknesses of powerful enemies to cleverly and dramatically exploit.

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

wild mass guessGlass is made of sand. Elan is immune to glass. Ergo, Elan is immune to the sand elemental's attacks.wild mass guess

@Tobias: Heh, a good point! But presumably only those parts of the summoner's intent that match with actual setting canon, otherwise it's somewhat of a Word of Dante elemental. :P

[up] Elan is immune to glass? I don't remember that offhand — how did he come to be immune to glass?

[up] It's part of the Dashing Swordsman class's skill set. The ability to break through glass windows without taking damage to make an appropriately dramatic entrance.

By the way: You know pretty much know the major plot of the first 300 strips or so.

Origin and Darkness aren't meant to be read first.

Dragons shapeshifting into humans and mating with actual humans is actually a fairly common thing in mythology.
