This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

I'm not sure that revenge for the infliction of significant injuries to one's throat if petty. Not very Zen, sure, but as things to take revenge for go, it's quite reasonable.
= Spindriver =Calder could charm Bloodfeast as a trap for when Sunny comes back to prevent getting antimagicked and dogpiled again.
That makes tactical sense. I'm totally not reaching out of hope, here.
Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask.The charm would stop as soon as Bloodfeast was in dino form again, though.
I am a dingbat and a fool.
(Thank you, no idea how I overlooked that.)
Mostly does better things now. Key word mostly. Writes things, but you'll never find them. Or you can ask.A yet-unsaid possibility is that the next strip could involve Calder give Belkar a deal.
Turn against your allies or I eat the lizard. This offer stands for the next six seconds.
From a narrative synergy perspective, the most probable outcome of this encounter is Calder begging for his life again, but being killed instead of imprisoned.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I can't see Calder begging, especially with the raw deal he got being spared last time. I think it will just be a fight to the death with no negotiation, or at least, none on Calder's part.
Writer, or something. And... a button? 🖲️Would eating Lizard!Bloodfeast result in him immediately returning to his true form upon death? I feel like that's what would happen in 5e but maybe 3rd edition worked differently
It's a good question. If Calder swallowed him we could get a repeat of the spectacular shapechange panel with Vaarsuvius, way back in the day.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I don't think that's a thing with 3.5e Baleful Polymorph. The spell's duration is listed as "permanent", and lists no special conditions for ending the spell on the target's death.
Now, if Calder ate Blood feast and then got hit with the anti-magic cone, then the DM and players are going to have a fun discussion.

I asked that last page and was told no, the antimagic cone would not affect Calder’s insides. Clear air only.
The question will forever remain hypothetical.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Way to go V! Of course this is going introduce problems if Bloodfeast survives in just following them around given his size.
Ooh, big mistake doing that within casting distance of a wizard.
How long do you think V has kept that spell prepared just for a situation like that?
Worldbuilding is fun, writing is a choreThe funny thing is that this fight is not one-sided. Not even a little bit. Calder's given as good as he's gotten. Look at how messed up V is in that panel.
But some of the hits Calder's taken have been so humiliating that it feels like he's getting dunked on. The vibe is LOL Get Fucked even while the reality is that this is an incredibly hard fight that the Order's barely pulling together.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Yeah V's not looking so good even with a potion bottle next to them. They are a squishy wizard but no-one's looking particularly fresh.
The Order at least has two Paladins as a (unintentional, thanks Serini) reserve.

So that's three breath attacks. How many breath attacks do we think Calder can do in one day?
In 3.x, dragons have unlimited uses of their breath attack but have to recharge for a few rounds between them.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Specifically, 1d6 rounds between casts. If they're lucky, they can use their breath weapons several rounds in a row.
In 5e, it was changed for rolling a d6 every round, they can breath again if it's a specific number (sometimes 1, sometimes 1 or 2).

The way Bloodfeast grew in Calder's mouth like that is used comedically, but realistically, as that angle, it should have broken his jaw at the very least.
I checked the d20 SRD; it's 1d4 rounds in 3.5.
I was sort of expecting that as well, but we may yet see it in the next page. It should be dislocated at the very least.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"As I read on the OOTS forums maybe they won't need to transport Bloodfeast, since he'll be Bloodfeast the Deadinator by the end of the fight... .
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midHe did just have his big moment and lost his portability. Narratively speaking, there's very little incentive to keep him around.
And Calder would be petty and pissed off enough to kill a now harmless lizard. It would be a smart move too since it would prevent the party from repeating the trick after Sunny recovers.
Disgusted, but not surprised
