This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread
for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

Roy is both smart enough, and has enough lingering blind spots (especially where his family is concerned), that it’s a toss-up in my mind. As someone said, the punchline could be his way of cluing us in that he twigged on the discrepancy without letting Eugene know.
Edit:
If Eugene was still scrying on Roy after he popped out from that visit, Roy yelling about sending him to visit Julia instead might have given him the idea to impersonate her.

What would be a major facepalm moment is if Roy realizes that "Julia" is an impostor, and winds up ignoring or deliberately doing the opposite of a key piece of advice from "her" at just the wrong time because he comes to the conclusion that she must be a malicious impostor.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |So my birthday is soon and I want a copy of Good Deeds Gone Unpunished for it. Is it available anywhere because it doesn't seem to be?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.
Quick Google search brought up a PDF version
and one in a library.
I own the PDF version but want a physical copy like the other two Order of the Stick prequel books.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I'm trying to decide if Eugene appearing this way would require him to "hijack the hijack" as someone put it, or if it would just require appearing to Roy the same way he did before, except in the illusory appearance of Julia.
There would be something narratively economical about him using Julia's spell to trick Roy, but I can't really see it being necessary. Seems more likely she just accidentally gave him the idea.
I'm not sure if it is character development but rather that he's showing more of his character.
Note that even though (assuming "Julia" is Eugene) Eugene is expressing regret and apologizing, he's doing it while pretending to be someone else. As I've said before, this is still in character with what we've seen of him so far.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Giant has stated that although you can learn new things, you cannot learn it in a way that will let you apply that knowledge to anything. In terms of Roy's spellsplinter maneuver, if he hadn't put a feat into it upon being resurrected immediately after learning how to do it from his grandfather, he would have completely forgotten about how it worked in short order.
Which seems like a story way of explaining "can't gain experience."
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. Then he just botched it with "I don't need spells!" "spells" is 6 letters. Interestingly, "magic" would have worked.
Fjón þvæ ég af mér fjanda minna rán og reiði ríkra manna.Notice how Redcloak hastily says that he "totally" used the quinton so as to preserve the bugbear's resources.

I forgot Xykon is still locked to think about what he's saying.
Also, now that they've picked up the pace, who knows what will happen.
One Strip! One Strip!I like that this strip is setting up a whole extra level of tension between Xykon and the Quinton. Being able to kill monsters for actual XP is a rare pleasure he hasn't had for ages and this killjoy is even taking that away from him.
...which also raises the question of whether, if he could keep it on-side long enough for it to exhaust its spells, he could backstab the Quinton itself for XP?
The Quinton only has a CR of 14, so while I'm sure Xykon could absolutely waste them, I don't think he'd gain any XP from doing so.
I have no doubt that he'll try to do that in retribution for this humiliation at the end of their deal, however. I'm sure the Quinton is also aware of this inevitability.

The last time Roy and Eugene talked directly was...
Here
, I think. Eugene tried to make what amounts to a social call, and Roy made clear that he was unwelcome to do that.
