I mean, "Orange Voice" is obviously going to be important. The gist of that comment was that someone know one would even expect is going to come back up.

Unless he's just screwing with people for fun, going making the answer to something like this "The mysterious character who appeared on the last page of the book" means he might as well have said nothing.

I checked out the appearance thread(s), and I noted one important detail that makes that source potentially unreliable: they count pictures of a character as that character appearing, when Burlew could easily not count it that way.

Granted, I doubt there are any characters that would be brought back into contention that were eliminated otherwise, but it is something to keep in mind.

I feel like this kind of hinges on Rich's definition of "character". Like the Holey Brotherhood priest could be the person but I'm not sure I'd consider him a proper character given he doesn't even have a name.

Is the comic not loading for anyone else? I'm getting an error message when I try to see it.

Edit: Turns out it's Firefox-related, I can see the comic fine on Chrome.

[up][up]Just to be pedantic.. You really do have to learn how to properly use a sword. You can't just pick one up and start swinging.

It improves physical ability, including Dexterity, and enables the acquisition of feats such as Spellsplinter. Mass murder is the best way to become a great swordsman.

Minrah's speech is similar to something I've been saying about redemption on other threads for a while now.

All it means is choosing to be a better person. There's never an excuse to not be better. If you were a shitty person for most of your life, there's no reason you can't decide to not be a shitty person anymore. It's never too late to turn over a new leaf.

That doesn't mean of course that people are obligated to accept this change or to just give you a pass for past shitty behavior. Choosing to not be shitty anymore doesn't mean you get to dodge the consequences for being shitty in the past. And if you really are trying to not be shitty, you'll accept that.

Disgusted, but not surprised

I’m not sure Minrah would be so sanguine about this “just be better” message if she had any real idea what Old Belkar was like. (Or if she happened to cast Detect Evil on him, even now.) But then, I guess that’s the point.

“I am [preaching it] because I’m a cleric!” is a great line.

I love how literal she is in her phrasing and trains of thought. So many good lines.

You're not a type! You're a person, a person who does stuff! If you want to be different, do different stuff!

Did everyone I know tell me, "Oh, I don't really think you're the type to be a cleric"? Yes! Did I listen to them? No! I mean, I listened, or else I wouldn't have known they said it. But it didn't stop me!

If anyone tells you that you can't be better if you want to be, you punch them in their stupid judgy face! No, wait, that's an overrreaction.

I don't think this is the kind of anvil that needs to be dropped, or at least not this way. First, it looks like that this lecture was directed more towards the audience than towards Belkar. I find Belkar quite OOC with his saying "I'm not the trying my best type". He has always been trying his best towards some goal or another. I don't feel that this strip would integrate well with his character development arc. Second, it's not only a topic that's been told over and over, but it's also told in this very comic, in a much better way, in Tarquin's arc (or anywhere along Elan's character development, really).

Compare this to the lecture O-chul gave in his prequel. I also found that anvilicious, but that's much more in the "need to be dropped" territory. Mostly, because that's backed by the whole characterization of O-chul which that is consistent with.

The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.

Honestly, I wonder if this is meant to be a subversion and tell Belkar that he doesn't need to play along with common morality in order to "be himself", setting up a Face–Heel Turn. It was the first thing that occurred to me when I read the strip.
