[up][up][up][up][up]Sorry for the nitpicking, but you got the trope wrong. Deader Than Dead means that the character is "not coming back, ever" dead, regardless of afterlife. In this comic, that means the body being utterly destroyed, for example with Kubota, Tsukiko, or Nale. What you are thinking of in connection with the Snarl is Cessation of Existence (which implies the former, but still a different trope).

I wonder if whatever Minrah's role will be in the last book was first intended for Bandana...

Honestly, that's what I'm most afraid of. She gave up her chance to live in Valhalla, so she'll be rendered Deader Than Dead by the Snarl to let what that means sink in.

If we were meant to think her decision was the wrong one, then maybe.

But I doubt Rich is going to so transparently punish her for risking Hel to save the world.

Arenít there cannon fodder on the villainís side to show how serious the threat of the Snarl is? And Belkar?

I think the scope of the Snarl is a bit beyond "It kills one dude! SO SERIOUS!"

If we are in for an establishing threat moment, something more like "And then it ate the entire Western Continent!" would be more appropriate.

But neither of those things really feel like they fit the tone for Order of the Stick anyway. Rich doesn't typically kill people off just for shock value.

I think that, at this point, we are expected to believe that Snarl is a threat without having to see anyone else get killed by it. I mean, if the shot of billions of tombstones in honour of realities destroyed by Snarl doesn't convince you that the thing is dangerous, I don't know what will.

By threat, I was using the meaning of "so this is what it means to be devoured by the Snarl" as was established by Tobiasdrakes's response to a quote in the earlier post.

I did not agree with the premise, only pointing to more options then Minrah.

Why does she need to be about the Snarl?

A multi-classed Fighter-Cleric who knows how to change her mind and who he doesn't have a plan against... seems like a possible counter to Redcloak more than anybody else on Team Evil.

Unless it turns out her deep, dark secret is really loving big, doofus, fluffy direwolves — in which case, more character development for the biggest doof of a Monster around.

...hey, guys? When was the last time we saw Azure City? Before the current book, right? What are the odds that, since the Snarl started shanking people at the end of Blood Runs in the Family, it basically ate every inhabitant of Redcloak's fledgling goblin empire when we weren't looking?

but HOW?

It would also help break Redcloak, since Gobbotopia is one of his most prized accomplishments.

On the otherhand, Rich has said in the commentaries that Gobbotopia not getting toppled and Azure City getting rebuilt was meant to be the goblinoid's victory and we can assume part of Redcloaks problem since he got everything he wanted for his people but isn't satisfied.

Desteoying it offscreen would ruin a lot of the deliberate "monster races are people too" measages.

I don't get why anybody is so fixated on the Snarl going ham on whole populations again, when it's been established that whatever is going on is way more complex than even the gods know (with the possible exception of Odin when he's having a good ten minutes).

It may be the same old terror. It may not be. It doesn't have to murderise more people on screen to confirm that it has, in fact, muderised in the past (because we know it has... just ask the Scribbles).

If this was a real role playing game, Minrah would probably just be the eventual replacement character for whoever is playing Belkar introduced a bit early so they don't have to figure out how to handle adding a new character in the middle of an frozen wasteland when it's needed.

Plus, Gobbotopia is a good idea for getting Goblins away from the positions of "experience fodder". Redcloak's problems are not with his ideas of Goblins being equals with the world but his methods of trying to ensure that.

Plus Ultra, Minrah and Durkon are carrying around a howitzer named "The Dark One may have been responsible for the position of Goblins in the world". Why not use that?

Yeah, I also dunno what you're on about. Like, maybe in an indirect way, in that the Purple Quiddity is so vitally important that Thor would be willing to offer so pretty important concessions in exchange for his help, but he's being unreasonable and not negotiating; but he certainly didn't do anything to cause it in the first place. He couldn't possibly be, because he didn't exist yet when the position of Goblins in this world was decided.

My interpretation was that the Dark One was able to deify because the goblins have grown beyond Cannon Fodder in this iteration of the world.

That's what the purple quidity is: the goblins' belief that they are people, too — and, that they deserve a say in how things work because they're not mindless animals.

That wouldn't make sense way; the goblinoids situation isn't entirely unique to the world - it's not like they're the only persecuted "monster race" there is.

I don't think we're supposed to understand why the Dark One is a different quiddity at this point.

Euodiachloris Relationship Status: Is that a kind of food?
Sep 22nd 2019 at 9:34:51 AM

[up][up]So? That's why nobody saw it coming. And also why many gods still won't think it's possible even when told about it.

[up]If nobody was looking for new quidities before, they'll have missed them each time they tried to get going: every attempt has probably run into the hiatus issue Hel is about to experience — not enough belief to bridge the gap. So... shoved back to square one at each restart.
