New comic.

I've had some trouble getting on the site lately. Have they been having server trouble?

No matter, Vaarsuvius is awesome.

The best part was that after reading the title, I knew exactly what was going to happen in the comic. evil grin

Oh yes, that punchline sure had me laughing.

Anyways, surely that can't be the end of that. What's he gonna do next?

V's going to go Evil. But not Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil. Awesome Evil.

Ok. Seriously. What the hell? Where did he come from? I'm not taking "It's funny" as an answer. That is a dead monster of the week from several books ago.

Yeah, that came completely out of nowhere. Hope there are some explanations in the next comic...

My bet: it's the other dragon's mother.

Can't think of any other explanation myself. Will V now team up with the imp or what?

Vaarsuvius' mate in dragon form? And none too happy?

I don't know, I don't play D&D, but that's the possibility that occurs to me.

Well if heroes can be rez'd why not villains? Since we are dealing with a demon here that may just be the case(in a plan to get V to trust him).

Well, its eyes are a different colour, and according to Qarr it's ancient while the last one was young adult, so it's probably a different dragon.

Also: ouch!

Damn. Qarr isn't exactly a physical powerhouse here either, I have no idea how they're going to get out of this one. Durkon, Elan, Lien and Hinjo showing up for a Big Damn Heroes is the closest to a plausible scenario I can come up with, unless they somehow manage to bargain off the irreversible death of its child. (Assuming that she's the mother, which is what seems most likely)

I think this is where Quarr is supposed to step in. As she said: "It would take a great deal more than a handful of misplaced acquaintences before I would consider" any deal with Quarr... and this is a great deal more pressing than that.

Yeah, probably a mom. The demon saving then befriending V is a little to obvious, so there's probably going to be a twist.

Mostly I hope it's something more creative because otherwise I'd have to seriously question why Rich didn't give so much as a hint about the dragon in advance.

From comic #188

V: Draconic runes...indicate that the starmetal was brought to the cave by a dragon-though I do not believe it was the dragon you just killed.

Roy: A different dragon? What makes you think that?

V: The starmetal was enshrined well over a century ago, while this dragon was only a Young Adult.

This sort of thing, you mean?

No. See, at that point it was still just a monster of the week. The plot has loooooong since left that behind, and there has been no further mention of dragons, or anything not directly tied to Xykon or Kubota or that tribe of orcs, for hundreds of comics.

Well, personally I don't have that much of a problem with it, but as far as tying it into the rest of the story: going for Law of Conservation of Detail, there's speculation on the forums that this dragon was the "important client flying in" after the P Cs the last time we saw the Oracle. While that doesn't have to be so, it seems reasonable enough.

The kobold Oracle would be the type to sick a dragon upon people he didn't like, yes. Though he missed the ones the Oracle REALLY didn't like.

Well, sure, but it's the person the dragon really didn't like, which is probably what's more important to her.

V has kids?(# 628)

Well, looks like the oracle was connected to the dragon after all, just not in the aforementioned way.

Well, damn.

Hopefully this threat'll bring V back to his senses, and she'll be able to reconcile with the rest of the party in order to save the children. Nothing to show you what your priorities are like a dragon threatening your kids, methinks.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Everything else I expected but not the children. Ouch!

The whole situation is so unfortunate. The Order took down the dragon because they had to get the starmetal (though it wasn't vital to their quest, it did make Roy's sword stronger), and I doubt he would've given it over even if they had asked. Which led to the mother dragon losing everything she had, and taking revenge on her son's killer. Makes me wonder if there wasn't anything they could have done.
