This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread
for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

I just saw that comic and went "What the heck?" I'm sort of unsure what she's trying to do here. Tie Haley down in Cliffport, removing her from the picture? Give them all of Haley's possessions? Make Haley officially a guild member so they don't have to kill her but not act on it? Also, why the lightning and the hurting of the fighter?
I'm guessing the lightning and the hurting of the fighter was to get their attention. Hank and the other guy were kind of ignoring her to discuss what kind of vessel a vampire thief would leave the Guild in, and being held captive by three armed men isn't the best arguing position in any case. Always better to bargain from a position of strength, no?
With that said, I have no idea where she's going with this.
the dice are loaded, the deck is stacked, the game itself will hold you backI don't think it's lightning-as-an-attack. She's basically going into Glowing Eyes of Doom mode, only she's about to unleash...lawyer power.
I don't think the fighter-guy holding her is being blasted away, exactly, so much as he's being flung off or startled into letting go off by the Litigation Avatar State, or whatever.
"renegotiate the contract" can mean, among other things, that she continues going on her quest to save the world- as a member of the Thieves' Guild. Even a small take would certainly be worth it on the part of the Thieves' Guild, considering the kind of money Haley is likely to run into fighting Xykon and his ginormous army of goblins. Certainly a lot more than whatever items she's carrying right now.
See you in the discussion pages.I just read a post in their forums about a girl (?) that says that Celia is the reason why she hates Lawful Good characters.
Nevermind Roy, Durkon, the entire Sapphire Guard (Memetic Badass O-chul included) and the entire arc devoted to pointing out that Lawful Good people are not always douches like Miko. In fact, they hated Miko. And Celia is in fact helping the party a hell of a lot more than, say, Belkar.
I think that if Celia is The Scrappy, it's not becuase she is lawful good: it's because she's a non- adventurer that can clearly see that the way adventurers usually act is often needlessly violent. And some readers a bit unconfortable about having their methods being questioned.
Still, I hope she has a better fate than Miko. Whenever an outsider dies, I believe they fuse with the plane they died on and that would actually be a pretty damn good way to galvanize Roy's resolve to protect the plane: becuase the plane is his loved one.
But the Giant is a tricky one, so maybe even though doing that would be super- dramatic he'll just let it slide.
Same here, faw.
Celia is awesome for having potentially lethal powers and simply, not using them. Seeing that most people's vision of Lawful Good is the Lawful Stupid paladin on a genoside on non-lawful alignments, a lawyer is a nice change.
She also subverts the lawyer stereotype, in that she actually has morals. ZING!!!
So is that guy she zapped dead?
Umbran Climax◊I can see where someone might find Celia annoying in a D&D game... and I can certainly understand why Haley is upset with her (for those who haven't read On The Origin Of PCs, she does have a use for that money beyond "I like money"). But just as with Miko, who's pretty much as unlike Celia as you can get while still being Lawful Good, I think hating the character for this is stupid.
And Jotun... I think Celia would probably be angsting pretty hard if she'd actually killed the guy who was holding her. Since she isn't, I'm assuming he lived.
the dice are loaded, the deck is stacked, the game itself will hold you backNice to see some sense around here. The OOTS forums are so full of Celia hatred that it's not at all fun to read them anymore while waiting for a new strip. I have strong faith in the characters of OOTS, I trust Haley to make it despite all the obstacles piled on her, and I never expected her to actually pay the ransom in the end (as opposed to freeing her father by fighting Tyrinar). Besides, in my opinion, the more people are brought back to life, the better.
Then again, I have only been reading OOTS since 605 or something, so I don't have the same kind of urge to move on to the other characters as others.
I think this one makes recent V a lot more sympathetic, what with the recurring nightmares (remember, that was a situation where s/he/it was out of magic, and couldn't help). If s/he/it does take a Face–Heel Turn, I'm guessing s/he/it'll be an Anti-Villain. Given the amount of foreshadowing there's been, I'm kind of expecting the rug to be pulled out from under us at some point.
And yes, that particular epicene pronoun is meant to be pronounced exactly as written (the /s are silent). Read The Book of the SubGenius.

Could I add to the Celia love? The only indication I got that she was disliked when some... poster in the Crowning Moment/Awesome page called her "that annoying fey thing" while praising Belkar to the skies. Seriously, give some love to the Granola Girl + Bunny Ears Lawyer.
And poor Vaarsuvius. If this is what she's been subjected to, night after night, no wonder she doesn't trance.

Typo! There's a mistake in this comic!
