So, is the whole space battle going to be fought offscreen from the POV of the PCs? Man... I'd feel a bit gypped if I were in that game.

What's the alternative, have them all roll up new characters for one session?

Yes, or give them sheets of the NP Cs participating. Not like NPC to PC is a new concept to the group, half of their characters started this way.

On the other hand, mass combat is a bitch to run as a GM in most systems. Especially if the P Cs aren't directly involved. I mean sure the party is going to be involved in a decisive action regarding said combat (blowing the generator sky high) but otherwise there is no way for the GM to just dump them in that kind of situation.

Obviously the Endor space battle isn't planned, because Han and friends are going to botch the ground mission but I'm interested to see how the DM deals with it in-universe.

Making a guess here:

PC's are messing around with Ewoks, having feasts and C 3 P-0 being a God, and then something like Ben says "hey, weren't the rebele fleet going to be up there mopping up?"

cut to a screen shot of everybody dying.

Nah, the GM will have a cutscene of the rebel fighters getting into formation which will be a not-s-subtle cue for the players to get on with it.

Ah, someone has a bad feeling about this. Now it is a proper Star Wars thing.

Every good villain has to quote Shakespeare. (It's Macbeth, in case you were wondering.)

I don't recall those background clowns. Weren't the only other guys in the room the Emperor's red-cloaked bodyguards?

The blurb at the bottom refers to them. I think this scene only had Darthy and his Palpness in it. Per the blurb, they added random pointless henchmen, because it's expected.

I honestly thought Lucas added them at some point.

Yeah, they don't really do much, but they are there.

Per the norm of the classic Star Wars Expanded Universe, both have quite extensive backstories, and I think they're both actually highly important and powerful individuals within the Imperial hierarchy, relatively speaking.

Funny, I looked at that comic earlier today without trying to decipher the "code" that Jim made up. Now that I have, though... [lol]

Seriously, he thinks he can Bluff through a security code checkpoint?
