Oh yes. Patricia was an epic fail because of her voice.

Wasn't there a thinly veiled reference to Gradius at one point when Kagami mentioned she liked shooters?

Other than that I liked the voices, though, as I said. Some of the voices were a little cartoonish, like with that one chick who looked like Kagura from Azumanga Daioh, but I felt it worked with the tone of the series and they were all well-acted.

@Marioguy128,

I don't get why this show is so overrated. Anyone who likes this show is a complete idiot.
Well, it is fitting that I like Lucky Star then, since I am a complete idiot. I also thought Patricia Martin's English dub voice was fitting given her Japanese dub voice. Sporkaganza, I think you may be referring to Misao. I liked how her voice sounded so much like Kari's, but it was a bit cartoonish I guess.

Hehe. I thought Misao was Kari when I first heard her. It fits, though.

Ah, yeah, right, Misao, thanks. Also the page for the person who dubbed Misao informs me that she also played Kari from Digimon Adventure, So Yeah.

Well, as long as we are on the subject of Misao, I feel like it is appropriate to post this. I apologize in advance.

I enjoyed the show, even though I suspect most the refrences went over my head. Just those little bits of everyday life they focus on, even for three minutes, made me smile.

I particularly recall Tsukasa's battle with awakness, every little thing jolted her out of sleeping. That happens to me too many times, I had to laugh.

Patricia's voice was annoying. I chalked it up to her having a bad accent.

Lucky Star is not for everyone; you need to get into a very specific mindset before you watch it. The most effective way to accomplish this is either chronic sleep deprivation and/or copious amounts of recreational drug use.

Well, I liked it. But then again, I like most of what I see, and I watched it dubbed. (And I do agree that Patricia's voice was annoying, but I think I'm used to annoying voices at this point.)

I would like to know exactly why some of you hate it, though.

Lucky Star is not for everyone because its humor derives from Slice of Life comedy, Seinfeldian Conversations and references to anime and anime culture. If you don't find the above elements funny, you won't enjoy the show.

Curiously, the first time I tried to watch it, I got about six episodes in and wasn't finding it funny at all. About a year later, I decided to give it a second chance, and found it hilarious. Not sure what changed in the intervening time, but there you go.

Lucky Star isn't the greatest show, ever, but I quite like it. It's quite sweet, and the perfect sort of thing to watch before you sleep because it's got a very soothing effect.

My favourite character was Kagami.

English Misao has the best voice I ever heard in anything ever and I will forever love the person who compiles a video of all her lines for me to giggle at.

I actually just finished watching it a few days ago. It's not my favourite anime — or even my favourite slice of life comedy anime — but still, it was pretty funny.

I guess it is.

I love Misao's English voice, too. It has that sound/feel of pressing your tongue against your fromt teeth and I love it.

Hell, with one intensely glaring exception, the English voices of Lucky Star are awesome. Standouts are Kagami, Minoru, and Akira.

I always loved the voice of Yutaka. Hynden Walch has a talent for voices so incredibly cute that it goes right up to Tastes Like Diabetes and then Crosses the Line Twice.

@ Scholastica: I love Kuroi-sensei. Is it wrong for me to ship her with Konata's Dad? Because she's exactly the kind of stepmother Konata needs- Understanding of her lifestyle, but always able to pull her down to Earth when needed.

I didn't even mind Patty all that much, but certainly everyone else's voice is excellent in the dub.

It occurs to me that most of the people who hate the show only see the first few episodes or so before giving up.

Know that they switched directors around episode 6, and then on is when the show got much funnier.

"Wax on, wax off..." "But Mr. Miyagi, I don't see how this is helping me do Karate..." "Pubic hair is weakness, Daniel-san!"

The series improves a lot when the secondary girls are introduced, too. It gives the writers a much better and more varied canvas to paint with.
