Obelisk? The Tormentor?

Sasuke's Jonin application will forever be denied because they don't like him.

[down]Yep, from his wiki page:

At the age of 13, soon after becoming a jōnin, Kakashi was assigned to lead Obito and Rin on a mission that would benefit Konoha in the ongoing Third Shinobi World War.

Umm, Kakashi became a Jonin at twelve-thirteen or something. He became a chunin at six.

I figured that Obelix.

Wait, someone said something about us ignoring them. Anyone know who it was?

Got a question about the Characters.Naruto-Team7 page, specifically Naruto's profile:

That doesn't agree with Deceased Parents Are the Best's definition, IMO. Thoughts?

It's not deconstructed. It's played painfully straight.

[up][up] And where does the "freedom" part come into the trope?

Nowhere, which is why whoever wrote it has no idea what the trope is about. Best rewrite it into how his parents were really nice people.

Oh christ, this is gonna suck.

Naruto: The Sasuke Retrieval Squad is a five-man band mined from four groups of 3-person five-man-bands. Some hats get swapped in the process.

The LeaderShikamaru (formerly The Smart Guy)
The LancerNaruto (doubles as The Hero because of his emotional attachment to the mission)
The ChickChouji (formerly The Big Guy)
The Smart GuyNeji (formerly The Rival)
The Big GuyKiba (formerly The Lancer)
Sixth RangerRock Lee (formerly The Determinator. Heck, still is.)
Team PetAkamaru
And in the Imortals Arc:
The Hero and The Smart GuyShikamaru
The LancerKakashi
The Big GuyChouji
The ChickIno
And in the Konoha History Arc
The LeaderShikamaru (also The Smart Guy)
The LancerNaruto
The Smart GuySakura
The Big GuyChoji
The ChickIno
Sixth RangerSasuke
Shippuden tends to fall this way:
The HeroNaruto
The LancerSai
The Smart GuyKakashi
The Big GuyYamato
The ChickSakura
The Sixth RangerShikamaru
In Chapter 562:
The HeroGaara
The LancerTerumi Mei
The Smart GuyOonoki
The Big GuyEi
The ChickTsunade

I think everything besides the Kage is shoehorning.

They're all shoehorning.

Why do people like assigning a 5 man band so much?

I dunno most of them work for the roles. Face it Five-Man Band is an age old archetype that stories will fall into a lot.

Welcome back, Lu! smile

I think the Sasuke Retrieval squad fits. Needs to be rewritten though.

Making a Five-Man Band is fun.

You're right, they are.

People need to make teams, and there must be a trope for my favourite show!

Five-Man Band is five people only, no duplicate roles. So, most of them are shoehorning. Everyone must have the right role, not just 3 or 4 people.

Unless it's a 'bad' trope lu. Then, my favorite work never does it.

The problem isn't people abusing the Five-Man Band trope, the problem is Kishimoto abusing the Five-Man Band trope. But the fact is he is using that ensemble set up a lot, and at Tv Tropes it's our job to make note of it.

From the trope page: Variations occur where the core five are different or overlap. Don't take the title too literally — it's the roles more than the numbers that matter.

It was mentioned way back that the reason the five man band trope is being overused is probably because the trope has evolved.

I don't think any of the examples are right.

[up][up] No. Hashed out in TRS and Trope talk. That part doesn't apply. Five people or nothing.

No, he's not. Not unless the trope is so general as to be effectively meaningless.

Because the article is locked. How do they fit? Mei has no lancer qualities. The band immediatelly falls apart.
