You Gotta Have Blue Hair / Fan Fic

Go To

A list of fan fics which have characters with unusually colored hair.

  • Light and Dark The Adventures of Dark Yagami and the character's "dark black rainbow hair". invoked
  • In the crossover fanfic CSI: Death by Chocolate, adult Violet Beauregard, last seen post-blueberried at age 12(ish), has blue hair. And skin.
  • Evangelion 303: Rei Ayanami has blue hair; Kaworu is grey-haired; Misato is purple-haired; Smith Torren -Shinji's ex-wingman in the Black Aces- has light-blue hair- Saburo's hair is dark-indigo.

  • Pagally of Winter War has light purple hair, odd but hardly out of the question considering the source material. Subverting the usual implications of this trope in a fanfic, Pagally is originally presented as a more or less generic low-ranked female Arrancar, and while she plays a role as the plot goes on (and joins the shinigami side because she's more scared of Aizen than she is of them) she's not by any means one of the main protagonists of the fic.
  • Buzz Lightyear in For Good and One Hundred Days has unruly blue hair, hence the perpetual thermal hood. In the former, it's justified because he is a Half-Human Hybrid, though he doesn't know this himself for a long time.
  • In Ace Combat: The Equestrian War, the characters who wear blue manes are: Gale, Firefly, Tornado Swirl, Sunburst, Blueberry and Sky Eye.
  • In the Discworld fic by A.A. Pessimal, Johanna Smith-Rhodes-Maaijande, a strawberry-blonde oddity in a red-haired family, gives creative thought to the fact two of her aunts have, separately, earned the title of "The Red Death" from their counrry's mortal foes. She reasons that to match her startlingly red-haired aunts on the basis of hair colour would take some serious dye. And would fail to make her stand out. She gives the problem some serious thought and has her hair dyed neon-pink, on the grounds it pays to advertise, and she is a trained Assassin, after all. And the enemy nation who gave her aunts the title of the Red Death doesn't have a word in its language for "pink". Until now.

  • Game Theory provides an interesting justification for this trope; unusual hair colors are the legacy of Alhazredian gene modification used to denote tribal lineage.
  • Pro wrestler The Blue Meanie in The JWL.
  • Anthropology: When Lyra is turned into a human, her hair is the same color as her mane: mint green. Thankfully, when she teleports to the real world she winds up in modern times, so no one really minds.
  • A Growing Affection: Yukihana has cyan (light blue) hair. Ayameko has gradient colored hair (blue on one side changing slowly to purple). The Kouin sisters have blue hair, but one of them changes it to green.
  • Calvin and Hobbes: The Series has Father Brainstorm, who has green hair.
  • Some of the SUEs in Perfection is Overrated have unnatural hair colors, such as Mariko (blue), Toki (silver) and Sekai (green), and others have unnatural colors for Japan, such as Shizune (blonde), Bachiko (blonde) and Meiko (redhead). In a deleted scene, Midori suggests looking for anyone with unusual hair colors as a possible SUE suspect, but retracts that when she realizes the mix of hair colors among the Mai-HiME cast, as noted in the anime page.

  • In Marks of Time, some residents of Fort Collins have blue or pink hair, because in the future, hair dye is permanent until a "special shampoo" washes off the dye.
  • Mi Tru Lov has a protagonist with purple hair.
  • Return To Hinamizawa runs under the assumption that the unusual colours in the source material are natural, and they follow similar inheritance patterns to real hair colours.
  • While there are plenty of characters who have strange hair colors in Justice Society of Japan (what with being an huge Mega Crossover), Hope is a shape-shifter who ends up adopting a Mystical White Haired disguise.
  • The Nickelodeon Fanon show Y-Guy has the character Hearty, who has pink hair.
  • Nightfall: The Shinobi have hair that usually matches their color scheme, Cristyle has light blue hair to match her blue armor and Hades has pink hair to match his red armor, conversely Syljaʻs hair is blonde to match her green armor.
  • In Mega Man Reawakened, Robert has blue hair, as does his father.
  • Hibiki, the protagonist in Swimming in Terror, has bright orange hair. However, it is dyed.
  • In the Italian remake of Battle Fantasia Project having strange hair colours (including relatively mundane ones like Usagi Tsukino, Minako Aino and Mami Tomoe being blonde Japanese) is a possible sign of having magical powers and the reason most Japanese magical girls don't like the Japanese police (who usually tends to harass them for their apparent anticonformism).
  • Jana Teires in Tom Riddle's Schooldays styles her hair like a porcupine that's fallen into a bucket of blue dye.
  • Eddie in Broken Souls has purple ombre dreadlocks.
  • Detsniy Off Skiword
    • When Pit 2 turns into Scarred Pit 2 in Kid Icarus Uprising 2, it's said one of the physical changes is his hair becoming Dark Black Rainbow. Possibly a Shout-Out to Dark Yagami.
    • Avance Wars 3: Yelow Commet Defence's main character, Dusk, is said to have hair that is black as blue. Most likely, he meant that Dusk has Multicoloured Hair.
  • In Children of an Elder God, Rei's blue-haired. And in chapter 21, Anna's hair turns green.
  • In the Daily Life with Monster Girl fanfic Daily Odd Life with Monster Girls , Princess Kishimura and the members of her family all have purple hair.
  • Deconstructed in Paradise. Celestia's pink mane and snow white fur was in sharp contrast to the rest of her herd's more mundane greys and browns. This made Celestia more difficult to keep safe than other foals.
