- Alternate Aesop Interpretation: An alternate way to look at the episode is that it's a commentary on how Dimitri's way of thinking is deeply flawed and excessively rigid, as opposed to just not putting his heart in his deck. He's a genuinely good duelist when it comes to copying decks and dueling styles...but he never really tries to innovate beyond that point, instead just using the deck as is and relying on the innovations and copied skills of the original duelist instead of building off of the strong foundations of said decks to develop something of his own. From that point of view, the problem becomes apparent:
- Even if by some miracle he didn't get caught and kicked out of the academy later on: What happens once he either runs out of techniques and skills to copy from the likes of Yugi, or hits duelists (like Jaden) who can figure their way around his copied skillsets and hit him in a way that he can't just copy his way out of? Or worse, what if he faces off against someone who knows Yugi's deck exceptionally well, like Seto Kaiba or someone who's studied Yugi's deck just as thoroughly, but built their own unique dueling style and deck while also being able to counter it?
- The reality is that Dimitri could probably make it decently for a while with Yugi's deck, but even Yugi Muto changed and evolved his deck overtime to reflect his own growth. Dimitri, on the other hand, shows himself to be rather stagnant when it comes to his own growth, and even with Yugi's deck would eventually hit a ceiling he can't just bust his way through with a new Deck and Duelist to copy. Eventually, Dimitri would be back at square one, except even more brutally humiliated without any safety net to fall back on given just how ruthless the Pro Leagues are by comparison to Duel Academy.
- Ultimately his "success" in Duel Academy with a hypothetical King of Games deck wouldn't make him a better duelist; it'd just make him a Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond at best, or seen as little more than a fraud and a poser, either in Duel Academy or the Pro Leagues. And his inflexibility means that he won't be able to properly address the matter, or just refuse to do so.
