  • Awesome Music: The electronic score by composers Jasper Justice Lee, Kyle McKinnon, and Mads Heldtberg is a playful little homage to horror scores of the 1970s and 1980s. It's a real shame it's never seen an official release.
  • Catharsis Factor: One for the entire horror fandom. Terrible decision-making by main characters in horror films are so ubiquitous and ingrained that it's now considered a normal part of horror cinema. So Erin's extreme resourcefulness, intelligence, and combat prowess coming together to invoke The Hunter Becomes the Hunted is a breath of fresh air in horror. It's fine to admit that you were cheering her on as she hunted down the three killers and especially when she killed Felix, Zee, and Crispian.
  • Complete Monster: Crispian Davison, seemingly a mild-mannered individual, conspires on killing his entire family to cash in on their inheritance. Hiring a trio of assassins and working with his brother Felix, Crispian cowardly flees the house to cover up his involvement while the assassins slaughter his family, as well as two innocent neighbors to ensure there are no witnesses, and is uncaring at his girlfriend Erin being endangered throughout the night. When Erin murders all three assassins and Felix, Crispian brushes their deaths off as more money to him, before pleading for his life and attempting to bribe Erin into silence.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • A family arguing at dinner is funny. That family being forced to flee into the hallway when they get attacked is terrifying. That family continuing to argue as they try to hide is hilarious.
    • While generally the Black Comedy is more subtle, there are a few moments that fit into this trope. Some good examples would be Drake's death, in which he repeatedly gets stabbed with multiple objects as his killer tries to pass it off as an Accidental Murder, only to continue and rant about how "Would you just die already? This is hard enough for me!" and Zee trying to have sex with Felix... on the same bed where his dead mother is laying (he is considerably freaked out).
    • And the ending where after shooting Erin, thinking she's killed everyone, the one cop who finally arrives goes through the front door, only to fall victim to the axe trap Erin set earlier before cutting to the title of the film splashing in blood.
  • Cult Classic: It didn't leave much of an impact at the box office, but it's very well-loved amongst horror movie fans for being an overall awesome Deconstructive Parody of Slasher films with probably one of the best and most badass Final Girls in all of horror movie media.
  • Memetic Badass: Erin, one of the smartest, most capable Final Girls in all of horror cinema.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Crispian planning the killing of his family in order to inherit the money.
  • Narrowed It Down to the Guy I Recognize: The previous film starring A. J. Bowen before You're Next was A Horrible Way to Die - where he plays a sociopathic serial killer. Tropes Are Tools, since this does enhance the twist, as a good part of the film exists to first set Crispian as a seemingly nice and decent guy.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Admittedly the movie's posters are pretty damn creepy.
  • Tear Jerker: Although Drake's death at the hands of Felix has elements of Black Comedy on account of his Rasputinian Death thanks to the painkillers, the look of utter betrayal on his face is absolutely heartbreaking. Felix's remorseful Why Won't You Die? response to this is equally depressing:
Felix: (on the verge of tears) Would you just die already?! This is hard enough for me.
  • Spiritual Licensee: It's Home Alone remade as a horror film.
