Young Jedi Knights

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Some scenes with Tionne and Luke paint them in a relationship. Though anyone who knows the Legends continuity beyond these books will know of Mara Jade's existence. It also is very much unintentional, as the writers knew ahead of time that Luke and Mara would end up together when they were writing the novels.
  • Complete Monster: Hovrak, from The Fall of the Diversity Alliance, is a Shistavanen Wolfman and the second-in-command of the Diversity Alliance. A vicious anti-human racist, Hovrak oversees many of leader Nolaa Tarkona's schemes, carrying out terrorist attacks against humans with intent to discover and unleash a plague to exterminate all humankind. Hovrak also relishes devouring his victims alive and in agony for any transgression—whether it be treachery against the Alliance, or cheating at a casino.
  • Cult Classic: This series is obscure even by the standards of Star Wars Legends works that aren't video games, The Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Empire, or the Revenge of the Sith novelization, but the people that did read these books love them very much.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Go here.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Jaina talking Zekk down in Jedi Under Siege.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Go here.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Nolaa is the sister of poor Oola and she and her sister being sold as slaves when the Empire subjugated Ryloth was her Start of Darkness. Nonetheless, she barely acknowledges how Bib Fortuna of her own species and Jabba the Hutt, another alien, also enslaved and killed Oola, and seems unaware that Leia (the mother of her enemies Jacen and Jaina, and a human) was also a slave of Jabba and the one to inadvertently avenge Oola, all of which could have made for some interesting dialogue, character depth, and interactions.
    • Anakin, Tahiri, the young Melodie Jedi, and their training peers never cross over from their own series, not even when the academy comes under attack from Brakiss.
    • Many fans wish Brakiss had lived to have a Heel–Face Turn after learning that the supposed emperor he was serving was an imposter, as a lot of fans find him more tolerable than various dark Jedi who actually get redemption stories and think that there was a lot of story potential there after his prior interactions with Luke.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The books are written for younger readers than much of the EU, but the deaths (spending days wasting away from a bio-weapon, falling into an acid lake, being eaten by a carnivorous plant, etc.) can be even darker and more graphic or creepy.
  • The Woobie: Anja Gallandro. Not only was her father killed, she ended up a criminal and drug addict herself. And still tries to laugh it all off as nothing, even as she attempts increasingly pathetic schemes for revenge—which is all that she has left.
