You and Idol Pretty Cure♪

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • Kokoro is such a big fan of Idol and Wink that the first time she got to meet them, she was deliriously excited. And even after she becomes a Cure herself, she still acts as excited and flushed when with them. She's just precious.
    • Cure Zukyoon might act like a mature young woman, but as Purin Tanaka, she's a Clueless Chick-Magnet who often swerves into Genius Ditz territory, similar to her fairy form, Purirun.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: Zakkuri's Zakkurinda form in Episode 25, although a tough and emotional battle, is far easier fight for the Cures than Cutty's Cuttinda form was. To reference, the Cures were at a disadvantage the entire time during Cutty's battle, with their group performance failing to work and required Purirun and Meroron to sacrifice their most treasured possession to become Cure Zukyoon and Cure Kiss to purify Cuttinda, which took a span of two episodes. Zakkuri? His fight culminates with Cure Wink managing to successfully purify Zakkurinda with her solo performance, Wink Crescendo - something that even upgraded Makkurandas would normally No-Sell.
  • Ass Pull: Cure Kiss being able to use Heart Garden and transport fights to a Pocket Dimension. Although it does coincide with her character arc, there was nothing to suggest that she could have gained this ability, nor was it explained how she was able to access it or if she already could.
  • Awesome Music: Has its own page.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Kurikyuta, the sumo wrestler Uta and Purirun mistook for a Precure in the first episode, has a surprising amount of fans, due to just how hilarious the idea of a sumo wrestler being a Precure is, even by the show's standards. His popularity even won him a Day in the Limelight episode where he's shown to be a passionate fan of both sumo and the Idol Precures, which increased his popularity even more.
  • Epileptic Trees: The moment Jogi was introduced, the fanbase immediately dissected his design from what they could see from his face and suspect that he might either be Kaito himself (a similar pretty boy character with a very similar face and hair structure, who has been Put on a Bus for a while, with occasional appearances here and there), a twin brother of his who never made his calling and chose to fight for the side of evil (viewers noticed that the earring is exactly the same, just the opposite position), or a friend that he mentioned earlier in the season that liked his singing. Episode 31 implies that he at least has some connection with him, as he mentions "so that's where he is" at a performance that he's in. The ending also has Kaito holding Idol's hand in desperation, warning her not to lose her bonds with her fellow idols, making fans think that Jogi is possibly a former fellow idol or friend he had a falling out with. Episode 35 adds fuel that it's more likely his former best friend, considering that Kaito mentioned about the last time being at the amusement park was with a former friend, and Jogi making a very similar observation when he's about to attack the same amusement park. Kaito also shows some sorrow thinking about to failing to make this friend smile. Episode 37 specifically confirms that he was his former best friend Kazuma, who failed an audition that Kaito passed, leading to their bond breaking.
  • Fan Nickname: On 4chan's /a/ board, Kokoro is often called "Catchphrasebot" because she is the most prone to saying her Catchphrase out of all the Cures. Meroron is also called "Merorot" (sometimes written "MeroROT") due to perceptions that she "rots" the story by taking up so much of the spotlight or is the most "rotten" of the team because of her possessive attitude towards Purirun in the first half of the season.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Several fans expected Cutty to do a Heel–Face Turn after it was shown earlier that he was watching recordings of Cure Idol's performance, then comes episode 17 and that's exactly what happened. The same ended up happening to Zakkuri in Episode 25, but in his case, it was Cure Wink.
    • Several fan theories revolved around Meroron, with her being suspected to be related to Darkiine or be a Shadow Archetype to the Kirakiland natives, with one of the episodes having Darkiine attempt to recruit her for that reason. Episode 30 confirmed she's a rare Kirakilander who is born from darkness, and Darkiine does use this to claim her as one of her subjects with Jogi attempting to stop the Idol Precure from breaking the lock until she is successful.
    • Quite a few fans suspected that Purirun and Meroron's human forms from their Transformation Sequences would be forms they would eventually take on as civilians. In Episode 32, they begin using them, under the assumed names Purin and Meron Tanaka.
    • When Jogi got revealed, fans speculated that he had a very strong connection to Kaito. Every further episode featuring both together made implications that both knew each other, while Episode 37 confirms this, as he was a former best friend of Kaito who had a falling out after Kaito passed an audition and he didn't.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Zakkuri is a rude jerk that would turn anyone who showed the slightest bit of Kirakira into a monster. Having said that, after Cutty leaves the Chokkiri Gang, Chokkirine shoves all the work on him to the point he overworks himself and almost collapses after several defeats by the hands of the Pretty Cure. At his point, you just want him to have a break.
    • Meroron is shown to be very clingy towards Purirun and abrasive towards anyone who wants to be friends with her, which is shown towards her hostility towards Uta. Her attitude since becoming Cure Kiss worsened to the point of fans demonizing her and considering her to be very unlikable, although Episode 29 heavily implies that her side of the wish to become Cure Kiss was to lose the ability to make friends. Once she openly admits to wanting to become friends with the others, she gets sealed away by the Heart Kirari Lock, since she actually gave up any hopes for a future for herself or Purirun. Fans and detractors have felt bad for her since.
  • Les Yay: Make your heart go 'Kyun-Kyun' with these tropes!
  • Memetic Mutation: Even idols can have memes about them!
  • Memetic Psychopath:
    • Purirun was seen as a gremlin/chaos-bringer to the fandom due to the amount of problems she causes for the Cures, with her attempt to recruit Kokoro as the third Cure being a standout example due to unintentionally withholding information from her. Namely that becoming an Idol Precure also includes fighting against monsters rather than just being an idol. People often joke by comparing Purirun to Kyubey, a fellow mascot that infamously withholds information as well.
    • When Purirun became Zukyoon, the comparisons stopped entirely, though the title merely shifted to her partner, Meroron, who keeps ruining Purirun's plans for the future and generally trying to not let her be near anybody. When it was found out why she was acting like this, both of them lost the title permanently.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If Darkiine didn't cross it by destroying the Big Kirakira Ribbon and turning Kirakiland into a barren wasteland, she certainly did when she ruthlessly transformed Cutty into a Cuttinder the instant he decided he could no longer fight the Pretty Cures.
  • No Yay: Kaito and Uta on account of Kaito being an eighteen-year-old adult, while Uta is a fourteen-year-old teen. Thankfully, Kaito himself only shows non-romantic interest in Cure Idol, while Uta mostly has a mild Precocious Crush on him.
  • Older Than They Think: Cures have been subject to being the Victim of the Week in past seasons after becoming Cures, like in Smile PreCure!note  and Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Curenote . However, this is the first season where a Cure and a Fairy are the host for a Monster of the Week.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Zakkuri is forced to do all the work by himself after Cutty gets redeemed, with Chokkirine overworking him to the bone and refusing to give him a vacation. It all culminates to the point Zakkuri is forced to accept help from Nana after exhaustion catches up to him. His situation is scarily similar to how real-life workers are sometimes overworked by their bosses and are not even allowed a vacation for their troubles, which leads to episodes of collapsing due to fatigue.
  • Ron the Death Eater: Meroron has gotten this treatment since she and Purirun became Cures Kiss and Zukyoon since she's become super protective of Purirun and pulls her away from the Cures after they find out the fairies' secret identities. While it's implied that it's because she lost her ability to make new friends to the Heart Kirari Lock, that implication only came long after her Cure debut. With some fans theorizing that Purirun unlocking her memories might make her lose her powers, many fans have quickly accused Meroron of being a Clingy Jealous Girl who is willing to destroy the Cures' friendship with Purirun just so she can claim her for her own. The fact Purirun is eventually able to remember without losing her powers didn't help. Eventually, it's revealed that the wish she made on the Heart Kiraki Lock means she literally had to keep Purirun to herself or risk defining their future together.
  • Unexpected Character: The 39th episode has a shocking example of this... The Dancing☆Star Pretty Cure, making their animated debut. Yes, the spin-off stage show is now part of the overall Pretty Cure universe.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Purirun has a rather androgynous appearance and voice, and a lot of people thought the fairy was male at first. It was only through some official notes regarding the character that many found out Purirun is actually a female. When she gains her human form, she's far more feminine looking.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome:
    • The animation for Cure Idol's transformation is so fluid and great that it's like you watched a work of art, rather than an animation. The first time it was shown, many agreed that it was possibly one of the best transformation sequences ever done for Pretty Cure.
    • Whenever someone is playing an instrument, the finger movements are copied extremely well.
    • Cure Wink's first finisher is gorgeous, with the intro being Cure Wink playing a solo piece on a crystal piano before she begins dancing and singing.
    • Although Cure Kiss' Heart Garden has gotten some flack for being another Pocket Dimension, some people feel like the visuals and colors are a huge upgrade to the Delicious Field.
