  • Awesome Music: The game as a whole has a great varied soundtrack perfect for a colorful and vibrant railroad shooter like this, but the Grass Land Theme stands out above all with its energetic, warm, and cozy vibes that make it equally suitable as a stage theme and a heartwarming ending theme for the adventure.
  • Cult Classic: The game became this due to its very fun, different, and creative spin on the Mario universe in terms of both its gameplay and story. The fact that it is one of the few titles to never see re-release in any form since then contributes to this.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Miyamoto originally intended Mario to use a gun instead of a Fire Flower in the early alpha versions of the game that would become Super Mario Bros. Seven years later and Mario is finally shooting enemies, although it's with a sci-fi gun that fires energy projectiles.
  • Older Than They Think: This is the first game released in the west to refer to Princess Peach as such as opposed to "Princess Toadstool". 3 years before Super Mario 64 standardized Peach as her name worldwide. She would revert to Princess Toadstool for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars before becoming Princess Peach for Super Mario 64, most likely as a result of this game's incredible obscurity.
