Year of the Comet

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Superman mourns Supergirl's death, reminiscing the last time he saw and touched his cousin Kara.
  • Common Knowledge: Most of comic fans believe Superboy-Prime's universe is the real life. This is absolutely false. Superboy Prime comes from Earth-Prime, another parallel dimension of the fictional DC Universe where Superman, Batman...are comic-book characters (much like Superman was a comic-book character in Captain Marvel's Earth-S), and it was never intended to be "our" Earth, as should be obvious given that Krypton exists.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Superboy-Prime's introduction as a kind-hearted, eager-to-help, innocent kid makes his downfall in Infinite Crisis into an extremely dumb, self-centered, guilt-pushing, volatile mass-murdering super-villain utterly heartbreaking... and all because DC wanted to turn him into a Straw Fan to put their critics down.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The story begins with Superman crying out in pain due to Supergirl's death. Many years later, cousin Kara's death in Crisis on Infinite Earths was undone, allowing Superman to get reunited with his family again.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: It is stated that Halley's Comet will become visible by Earth people within several months, dating the story's publication squarely to the final tail of 1985 (as of 2025, Halley's Comet last coming happened in 1986, and the second-to-last in 1910, twenty-eight years before Superman started publication).
