- Alternate Character Interpretation:
- What is Yuya to Kiryuu? It's clear that Yuya goes far beyond a mere apprentice to him, but the exact nature of their relationship is open to interpretation. Some readers see Yuya as a surrogate son to Kiryuu. Others see him as the object of romantic feelings from Kiryuu. Others believe that Kiryuu sees Yuya as an extension of himself and wants Yuya to achieve greatness as a proxy for his own ambitions.note
- Midori. Is she really the carefree Genki Girl she makes herself out to be, or is she actually somewhat aware of the cat-and-mouse game going on between Yuya and Inohara? It's hinted that there's more going on with her than meets the surface, but nothing conclusive.
- Why isn't Yuya able to get into character when the copycat murders start? Is it because he's plagued by guilt that people are being murdered for the sake of a character he and Kiryuu created? Or is it because he's lost control of the "role" Hanaya, and he can't truly adopt a new persona without putting his previous one to rest? Of course, it could also just be a side effect of having been in a coma for three days.
- Audience-Alienating Ending: It's wildly apparent that the series got prematurely cancelled in the last couple of chapters. Midori is murdered by the copycat killer, Saezuri. Yuya kills Saezuri for revenge. Then there's a 10 year timeskip detailing how Yuya hunted down all the people who caused Midori's murder to happen, all the while Kiryuu has been reduced to a neurotic shell of a man posting relentlessly on the dark web. All of it is extremely abrupt and comes out of nowhere.
- Ho Yay: Yuya and Kiryuu are clearly very important to each other, and some fans believe there might be a romantic undertone to their relationship. Although it's Played for Laughs, it is worth noting that Kiryuu and Midori really don't get along.
