- Ensemble Dark Horse: Sam stuck out for certain viewers as a genuine Nice Guy, a well-rounded and positive depiction of a trans man, and holding the title of being one of the few sympathetic and heroic characters on the show.
- Harsher in Hindsight: When written and filmed, a series involving bickering Republicans trying to deny the legal US government because it being from the "wrong" party seemed like a collection of political caricatures. And just as outlandish was the idea of a mob storming the government buildings in an attempt to have it their way. By the time the series aired, United States Capitol was already stormed
, over allegations of a "stolen" election and presidential office. - Nightmare Fuel: As bad as it was in the comics, the pilot shows the full horror of every man on Earth dying at once with plane and car crashes, mothers screaming over their sons dying, and more.
- Narm: The drunken rant by Dr. Mann about losing biodiversity. It is so over the top, what's intended to show the character as broken and depressed turns into a comedy skit - further compounded by the character being made into an Adaptational Comic Relief and clashing with how serious the scene is intended to be.
- Mis-blamed: Hulu gets a lot of flak for cancelling the show after just a single season. However, once they released partial viewership data, it became clear the show was leaking viewers episode-by-episode, making it just unreasonable to continue its production.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The biggest criticism of the series is that it's almost wallowing in how bleak its setting is (a sharp contrast with the comics that managed to find a balance between drama and levity) while being populated by either unlikable, flat, or lethally stupid characters (with a few exceptions), who all scheme against each other or never seem content with enough dog-kicking. To somehow make it worse, Yorick got adapted into a self-centred jerk with no sense of self-preservation, making it hard to sympathise with the main character. All of this was reflected in ever-dropping viewership, only further encouraging the network to cut the series they didn't want in the first place.
- Watched It for the Representation: The show was a brutal deconstruction of the Lady Land Feminist Fantasy following a Gendercide of all biological males, but you'll find no shortage of women and people on the LGBTQ spectrum singing praises for a cast composed almost entirely of actresses and trans-man actors.
