- Tear Jerker:
- The story is a sad Coming of Age Story about animal welfare and Innocence Lost. Many of the pigeons don't have clean deaths, which is why the wringers exist. The wringers themselves are only kids, but most don't seem to mind getting their hands dirty.
- The section where it talks about how sport shooting drove the once-common passenger pigeon into extinction is more than just a tear jerker; it will make you feel anger towards humanity as a whole.
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Wringer is a kid's book about the controversial topic of pigeon shooting. It doesn't glamorize it or shy away from the bloody parts either.
