- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- Did Grady recognize his son? And if so, was turning him into a werewolf his intention all along? This further raises the question of whether he'd recognize the girl as his granddaughter and feel the same way or have any desire to turn his daughter-in-law.
- Speaking of Grady, how much is he to blame for his own transformation? Did he keep hunting the original wolf after his son was gone, causing his own transformation, or was he caught by surprise and attacked while living his normal life?
- Captain Obvious Reveal: The reveal that Blake’s father is the werewolf who infected him is no twist at all considering how there were obvious hints such as the synopsis stating that his father disappeared, and if you’re familiar with the 2010 adaptation, it would be easy to connect the dots.
- So Okay, It's Average: General consensus is the film has fine effects, makeup, atmosphere, and performances. However, the plot is under-baked and the film suffers from the decision to center around the transformation. Most agree it's "pretty okay," with good ideas, but never quite comes together with the emotional depth the film desires.
- Spiritual Successor: Weirdly, this movie has significant similarities to Werewolf of London, while the setting and characters are quite different. Both films feature a more human-looking werewolf, who is not Immune to Bullets, and who seems to maintain a fair amount of human intelligence, while becoming more aggressive. Werewolf of London also mentions that the transformation can become permanent, if the werewolf fails to kill a human.
- Tainted by the Preview: Universal gave audiences a first look at the werewolf that infects Blake at Halloween Horror Nights on both coasts (as a part of the Terror Tram at Hollywood and as a photo-op at Orlando)... where it was near universally mocked and criticized for, most chiefly, looking nothing like a werewolf. Tellingly, the character was removed from both events after just one night.
- Tear Jerker: While many called it after the trailer dropped, Blake's death is nevertheless heartbreaking. He goes from snarling to whimpering, with his own daughter recognizing that he wants a Mercy Kill. In the end, Charlotte and Ginger stay with him until he finally dies, an agonizing fate for a man who loved and wanted to be better for his family.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The werewolf's design in the movie has gotten mixed opinions due to how heavily it downplays the "wolf" part and disregards most aspects of werewolf lore to act more like a gradual zombie infection.
