- Ass Pull:
- Justin's fate is this on four counts:
- First, there's the fact that the kid who worked his butt off to become a full fledged wizard, and bounced back from more embarrassing events, would give it up so quickly. "Potions Eleven" reveals this was the result of gaslighting from his former colleague, who altered his memory and hexed his wand to make him think he's a screw-up who couldn't save WizTech. As Billie points out, Justin could never mess up that bad. Even then, it seems rather out of character for Justin to not even so much as get his wand checked after that, memory or no memory. It's possible that the spell to alter his memory also caused him to believe himself to be a screw-up, and this is simply not stated.
- Second, the fact that he told his wife none of this comes off as contrived, considering how meticulous Justin was in the original series despite the fact something like this would certainly come to light whether his, Alex's, or Max's kids inherit their powers. The only explanation would be Justin just wanting to leave behind his past (due to the alleged Unicorn Incident) and never speaking about it ever again.
- Third, the fact that Justin kept his powers despite marrying a mortal can also be viewed as this, especially given that Jerry had to give up his powers when he married their mother in the original series. It's especially egregious that other reps of the Tribunal are aware that Giada is a mortal, and they're very lax on enforcing this rule.
- Finally, there's the fact that Justin's kids didn't get powers of their own, something that is handwaved through a brief mention of wizard powers skipping a generation. However, this was never brought up in the original show, which specifically made note on several occasions that wizard powers were hereditary. What makes this weirder is his sons would gain powers in the finale, which makes one wonder why they didn't just give them powers to start if the plan was for them to get powers. Though the possibility is brought up that the way they gain powers (blasted by a power vacuum which absorbed the powers of an evil wizard) actually activated dormant powers that were already in them, and we never find out how the Russo siblings in the original series first got their powers, it is still odd that Justin would think they didn't have powers at all if that were the case.
- The fact that Billie is in contention to be the Family Wizard seems more than a little unfair for everyone since Justin is merely her en loco guardian under Alex's request. You'd think that as a member of the Wizard Tribunal she'd be able to make an exception in this case since she's not even Justin's child and could lose her power for things she has no control over.
- This is further complicated by the twist that Billie is Alex's daughter. The original show never established where cousins stood in the family competitions.
- Justin's fate is this on four counts:
- Captain Obvious Reveal: Billie being Alex's daughter is something that many viewers guessed back in the first episode. The show didn't attempt to hide this twist very well, especially after David Henrie pinned a fan post predicting the twist to his social media feed before Season 2 even aired.
- Common Knowledge: In the Season 2 finale, Alex is trapped in an alternate dimension, with the characters fully intent on rescuing her. That didn't stop multiple news outlets from claiming that Alex was dead, and this falsehood quickly spread throughout social media. In the context of the show, Alex is canonically still alive.
- Just Here for Godzilla: How many hopped onto the show's second season because Freya Skye, fresh off of her role in Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 4: Dawn of the Vampires, made an appearance as the Oracle?
- Special Effects Failure: In keeping with the tradition of the original series' cheesy special effects, the frozen Milo in the first episode is clearly and visibly a dummy in several shots, particularly right as Billie and Roman place him on the bike and you get a good look at the felt texture of his neck.
