- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- Assuming the Woman on the Bike is in some way linked to the assassinations, her re-appearance at the end could be interpreted as a subtle warning to Nick from Cerruti, as a way of saying "I'm still watching you."
- Did Pa Kegan really have Tim killed for threatening his business empire, or was Cerruti framing him for it? Pa insists to Nick that Cerruti forged the evidence he ordered it to blackmail him, but this is while he's trying to keep Nick occupied long enough for assassins to arrive and execute him. Meanwhile, Cerruti's explanation to Nick implies that he only became The Man Behind the Man afterwards by using the fact that Pa actually did order it to blackmail him into submission.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The film has 33 Thomas Street (aka the AT&T Long Lines Building) as the headquarters of a global surveillance operation run by John Cerruti. Following the global surveillance disclosures of Edward Snowden in 2013, 33 Thomas was described as the likely location of a NSA mass surveillance hub codenamed TITANPOINTE.
- One-Scene Wonder: Where to start. Much of the films' considerable All-Star Cast members appear for only one or two scenes, brilliantly playing eccentric or absurd characters with remarkable aplomb.
- Paranoia Fuel: Basically everyone Nick puts his trust in or listens to turns out to be lying or hiding something including his father.
