- Allegedly Optimistic Ending: Laird is a genuinely nice guy, and Stephanie doesn't marry him, but instead goes back to college. However, she continues dating him, he remains an unapologetic foulmouthed pervert, and he has successfully integrated into the Fleming family mostly by dazzling them with expensive gifts. This is presented as a good thing, because his shortcomings don't matter if he's a "nice guy."
- Completely Different Title: Italy has Proprio Lui? (Really? Him?).
- Diagnosed by the Audience: Laird's lack of social skills could possibly be read as a sign of a social disorder.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The references to Sean "Diddy" Combs are a lot less funny in light of the many allegations of sexual abuse and various other crimes and dramas that have come out over the years.
- Nausea Fuel: Having a real moose in a tank filled with its own urine in the living room at Laird's. You know? A real and dead moose standing in its own real urine. Uh, yeah. Oh, but it doesn't stop there, particularly when said tank cracks open with large amount of urine gushing out in nearly every direction of the room, oh, and the kid being trapped under a urine soaked carcass with its urine soaked testicles flapped onto the poor kid's face. So um, right.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Laird may be nice but he's also a fairly repulsive and annoying Manchild. One of the biggest criticisms of the film is that Ned and Barb are completely justified in not wanting their son and daughter anywhere near him.
