- Audience-Alienating Premise: This film is Very Loosely Based on a True Story about attempts to undo a German Shepherd's conditioning to fatally attack black people by his racist owner. The fact that we see the dog kill two black people and go after more, and in the end inexplicably seem to reverse his training to now attack white people and need to be killed raised serious concerns that the wrong message could be taken, and it was buried by the studio.
- Awesome Moments: Julie chewing the shit out of the dog's former owner Wilbur, right in front of his grandchildren, for having made the dog into the way it is."Go to the police! Go, you son of a bitch! I'd like to see you walk in there and tell them this story. Then I'd like to haul your ass in court and expose your sick mind for the son of a bitch you are. The dog has been cured! Do you understand me? The dog has been cured! [pointedly] Cured by a Black man."
- Fridge Horror:
- The dog's former owner turns out to be a normal-looking old man named Wilbur. Yet, as per the words of Keys, he has turned the white dog into what it is by constantly having the canine savagely beaten by black people until it sees them as a threat. It goes to show how the evils of racism can be hidden in plain sight.
- One also has to wonder how much racism Wilbur has already "taught" his two grandchildren.
- Nightmare Fuel: The white dog itself. It seems harmless and even quite adorable until it sees any black person in sight. Then, it turns into a real monster, mauling them until they die.
- Tear Jerker: The titular dog's death. Keys has spent the better half of the movie reconditioning it, ultimately having even unlearned its tendency to attack black people, only to see the canine inexplicably lunging after his employer. Keys is then forced to gun the dog down, his facial expressions lamenting how the animal ended up a victim of people's racist behaviours.
