- Retroactive Recognition: Paul Sorvino and Rob Reiner have small early roles, as does an uncredited Penny Marshall.
- Values Dissonance: The film was very edgy even for its time, but in today's society, the its jokes about elder abuse, racist caricatures of black street toughs, and rape are all much more uncomfortable.
- Vindicated by History: Zig-zagged. The film performed poorly in its initial run but gained such a following in subsequent years that it earned a re-release under the new title Going Ape in 1975. However, in the decades that followed, the film has fallen into almost complete obscurity.
