- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The gumball machine coming to life and growling at Shaggy comes out of nowhere, is never brought up afterwards, and how it was able to do that goes unexplained by the episode's end.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In the teaser, the "living" Spaceman Swinton dolls build a long ladder out of building bricks resembling LEGO, which now have Scooby-Doo sets.
- Unconventional Learning Experience: This episode can be used how to teach false confessions to those going into law enforcement. It shows how Bluffing the Murderer is not a ruse that can prove guilt as is done on many shows like Law & Order or Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Velma also identifies one of the key signs of a false confession: the confession doesn't match the evidence. While Harry had a motive, his motive didn't explain the cement breaker in the basement nor did he have any knowledge of it.
