- Accidental Innuendo: In the English version of Ocean Magic's first episode, the narrator for the ocean encyclopedia segment accidentally pronounces the "horse" in "sea horse" without the "s" at one point, making it sounds like a far more inappropriate word.
- Archive Panic: The series has 250+ episodes and three movies, so it'll take a while to binge-watch it in its entirety.
- I Am Not Shazam: Balala is not a character name. It's a type of magic used. The main characters' names are Xiao Lan/Shirley, Mei Qi/Maggie, and Mei Xue/Michelle.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Balala the Fairies is very popular on YouTube in Japan, perhaps unsurprisingly since it's a magical girl series.
- Memetic Mutation: Noah's strange Chinese accent in the original live-action series, one example being "yu ni wu guan" ("it's none of your matter") being Malapropered into ""yu nü wu gua" (literally "rain woman no melon").
- They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Many viewers accuse this Chinese Magical Girl show of being a ripoff of Pretty Cure. Seeing as some parts of the Transformation Sequences are copied frame-by-frame from several Precure seasons' own transformation sequences, the accusation is not exactly baseless.
