- Scrappy Mechanic: The Warp function of the Bunbuku allows the player to teleport to various parts of Japan. On paper, that sounds great for easy access to levels with some trinkets still left to find. However, the warp will take you only to a specific region rather than a prefecture. In other words, if your knowledge of Japan's geography or the memory on where exactly each specific level is placed is not up to snuff, then you're better off just flying around in the Bunbuku.
- Slow-Paced Beginning: The game does not exactly start on the most exciting foot, with around two and a half hours of rather safe and straightforward platforming levels very infrequently broken up by the odd Browsby vehicle section. However, after level 16, the game's true scope opens up and the levels become a lot more exciting and challenging with gimmick levels showing up with far greater frequency.
- Spiritual Successor: To the Ganbare Goemon franchise.
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Some of the random trivia facts that Scoop teaches the player include the fact that crayfish pee out their heads, the existence of a manneken pis statue in a certain spot in Japan, and the implication that sumo wrestling referees carry a dagger on them to symbolize their willingness to commit seppuku if they make a bad call.
