- Adaptation Displacement: Most western anime fans are only familiar with the series through its anime adaptation, especially since the original light novels have yet to be made available outside of Japan.
- Ass Pull: The Class F Inquisition being able to increase their Avatar scores when they find out the class rep for Class B has a girlfriend. This is never explained, but probably occurred due to the Rule of Funny.
- Base-Breaking Character: Being a romantic comedy with the comedy being extremely over the top, all three of the main heroines have gained this position, initially being full-on scrappies until they would be fleshed out.
- Mizuki Himeji was seen as The Generic Girl and a token love interest for Akihisa to fawn over, not helped that the only comedic moments she contributed came from her cooking or her large breasts, nor her being made into a yandere in Season 2. Others however find her an adorable Rose-Haired Sweetie who, moments of jealousy regarding Akihisa aside, is a genuinely nice person whose moments of depth never got to be adapted into the anime.
- Minami Shimada's constant beating of Akihisa for often very stupid reasons and being a tsundere earned her the ire of many viewers. After her backstory episode in Season 2 explained how she first came to Japan and fell for Akihisa however, many began to see her in a much better light, aided by her and Akihisa having some moments that weren't filled with anger or violence. Others don't believe her backstory excuses her behavior due to it being Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male, not helped by some flanderized moments coming across as dickish even for her.
- Shoko Kirishima tends to be the most divisive character in the series due to her "affection" for Yuji. Essentially the poster girl for Fetishized Abuser, her horrible treatment of Yuji whilst the narrative continuously tries making her out to be sympathetic when she isn't made many viewers hate her with a passion. Others however like her either because her antics are so over the top it becomes hilarious or due to finding that the moments where she isn't relegated to just a gag character makes her much more likeable, particularly her genuine love for Yuji that he ultimately reciprocates and being a Lonely Rich Kid with a poor sense of what is and isn't acceptable behavior, it's just the series' style of comedy makes it more overblown than its supposed to be.
- Crosses the Line Twice: Half of the antics the girls put Akihisa and Yuji through would be nowhere near as funny were it not for how over the top they are, like Mizuki's cooking managing to down them both and make them nearly cross the River Styx.
- Designated Monkey: The universe pretty much has it out for Akihisa. Even when he's done nothing in particular to deserve anyone's wrath, he ends up in the worst possible situation anyway thanks to circumstance.
- Die for Our Ship: Akihisa/Minami shippers call Himeji a one-dimensional Generic Girl, Akihisa/Himeji shippers call Minami an aggressive bitch, and Akihisa/Hideyoshi or Kubo fans call both girls terrible influences who should be nowhere within two hundred feet of Akihisa.
- Fan-Preferred Couple: Most fans prefer to ship Akihisa with... Hideyoshi, mostly due to the fact that, out off all of Akihisa's Friends and Love Interests, Hideyoshi is the one who treats him with kindness. It's also implied that Hideyoshi reciprocates Yoshii's affections
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Himeji's battle in Episode 2 parodies Fate/stay night. The same animation studio would later make the adaptation of its spinoff Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA.
- The Light Novel ended with a Maybe Ever After ending between Akihisa and Mizuki (which by the way is Zig-Zagged for laughs). The World God Only Knows also ended with a Maybe Ever After between Keima and Chihiro. The reason for this entry: both main characters share the same seiyuu with their respective animated adaptations (which, for the record, has yet to animate the rest of the source contents.)
- Informed Wrongness:
- Akihisa in episode 10 of the second season. While he may have somewhat deserved the harsh treatment he got, he isn't the only one at fault. He may treat Minami like one of the guys, but that's partly because she's always beating him up, at times with only the slightest provocation. Not to mention, Miharu is one of the last people to tell Akihisa that he doesn't treat Minami well. Especially since she gave the What the Hell, Hero? speech right in front of Minami, and reduced her to tears.
- Season 2 begins with a Beach Episode, in which Akihisa and Yuuji decided to go on an 'Operation Babe Hunt' of their own. By the end, they're caught by the girls, who become angry and punish the poor bastards for their actions off-screen. Keep in mind, however, the only reason they did this is that the girls insinuated that they can't flirt with anyone because they're unpopular, especially after they tried to make them jealous and worried about being hit on earlier. In season 2's second episode they go further by forcing them to compete in a beauty pageant, adding the innocent Kouta and Hideyoshi to the mix for no almost reason at all. The guys are made out to be the ones in the wrong, but the girls started the debacle in the first place, and they had no business getting mad at the guys for trying to hit on other girls at the beach. Not to mention, absolutely none of the main boys or girls are dating each other, so naturally, the boys had no reason to be jealous of no-name guys hitting on the girls in their group, and the girls shouldn't be angry about the boys hitting on other girls.
- Just Here for Godzilla: A good portion of the fanbase is just here for Hideyoshi, largely finding him adorkable or loving the Running Gag about his gender.
- Memetic Mutation: Hideyoshi being identified as a gender. In the Chinese anime community Hideyoshi is even a shorthand for Ambiguous Gender.
- The Scrappy: Miharu Shimizu, Minami's Psycho Lesbian stalker. In addition to having most of the negative traits that makes Shoko's detractors dislike her, she's a violent sexist and misandrist that berates Akihisa for the very same behavior she exhibits, Season 2 making it even worse by having her frame the guys for spying in the bath and doesn't suffer for it, and has no sympathetic traits to speak of outside of her defending Minami when she first came to Japan.
- Strawman Has a Point: Nemoto's blackmailing of Mizuki using the love letter that she wrote in order to keep her out of the battle between Classes B and F is seen as extremely cowardly and underhanded by Class F, except for the small fact that it's entirely legal to do. It's nothing personal either, and no, Aki and Yuuji, it's not because she's a girl and he's a Straw Misogynist either. Considering what Serious Business class battles are, it's entirely justified as the class representative that he'd be doing whatever he could to make sure his class won. In fact, it's a bigger surprise that no one else thought of taking Class F's secret weapon out sooner.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Episode 7 looked like it could be setting up some impressive Character Development for Shouko, with comments from strangers (who don't have to worry about upsetting her) making her realize what an asshole she's been to Yuuji. Unfortunately, instead of being the catalyst for her change, the comments are treated as a Moral Event Horizon by the other characters, and she hardly gets better.
- Unintentionally Sympathetic:
- The delinquent couple from episode 7 were meant to be seen as jerks, and are treated as so in-universe, for belittling Shouko. The problem is, Shouko is basically Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male on two legs, and many fans saw the mocking as the Laser-Guided Karma Shouko deserved for her repeated abuse of Yuuji.
- Akihisa rarely, if ever, deserves the horrendous mistreatment he gets from everybody, especially Minami. But, since the series runs on comedy and Akihisa's interactions with Minami comedy-wise are restricted to Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male, he's made the Designated Monkey whenever Minami is around, and it's not a serious moment.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
- The narrative frequently suggests viewers are supposed to feel some kind of sympathy for Shouko. However, due to her actions as mentioned above, many readers and viewers have lost the ability to empathize with her and would prefer to see her get what's coming to her.
- Miharu, during season 2, is made out to be the person in the right who really cares about Minami and hates Akihisa for how he treats her in comparison to Mizuki. Even if she does have a point, Miharu's possessive behavior toward Minami doesn't help her case, ranging from ignoring her consent to spying on her, and even assaulting, blackmailing, insulting, and/or attempting to kill her classmates (largely Akihisa) just for being near her. In comparison to all that, the worst thing Akihisa has done is make Innocently Insensitive comments that provoke Minami's rage. As such, Miharu's “The Reason You Suck” Speech towards Akihisa heavily rings hollow, since she doesn't even treat her like a person like he does, but more as an object of lust.
