- Alternate Character Interpretation: When many of the locals take pictures of the dead outsiders, is it a form of Victory Gloating or a pragmatic way to provide proof of what happened after they have already witnessed attempts to Un-person their whole town as a prelude to the murder tourists arriving?
- Catharsis Factor: Two in the film that are great examples of this because of how Ax-Crazy the villains are, which makes their comeuppance fuel this.
- First, it's utterly satisfying to see Kate and Willy's ambush get thwarted by Damiano and his wife, with Damiano blowing Willy's head off in one shot. Kate can only panic and try to fire at him before she's mortally wounded in self-defense by Damiano's wife. It helps that them seeing Damiano nude fooled them into thinking they were about to get an easy kill on a vulnerable old man. There's been word about audiences cheering or applauding when this happens, especially considering that it's the first instance of karma the villains get after sadistically getting the drop on the villagers and causing them pain.
- In the climax, seeing the villains walking into a seemingly empty Bacurau, getting impatient and flustered over nothing to shoot at, and finally getting ambushed is very satisfying after they spent the film doing the exact same thing to the town. Special mentions goes to the ambush Lunga's group pulls on Terry, followed by Jake. Lunga and his men made sure the both of them suffered for what their cohorts did to the town, with Terry being shot twice but not enough to kill him so he's in agony and coughing up blood before Lunga angrily hacks him to death with a machete. The noises lure Jake to where Terry went, who is then slashed and shot by Lunga and his men as soon as he passes through a doorway they were hiding behind.
- Complete Monster: Mayor Tony Jr. is a sleazy Corrupt Politician with connections to a group of foreign psychopaths interested in Hunting the Most Dangerous Game, selling out the titular small town of Bacurau to be their playground, including the innocent children. Only caring for his reelection, Tony is despised by everyone in Bacurau for his incompetence and immorality, not only supplying Bacurau with expired food and harmful medications, but also forcing a young prostitute to be his "payment". Abandoning the town after the killers arrive and granting them access to massacre its people, Tony cowardly tries to deny involvement instead of confessing to have made a deal with them.
- Memetic Mutation:
- Maria: "Quem nasce em Bacurau é o quê?" ("People born in Bacurau are what?") Horácio: "Gente" ("People").
- For a while in Brazil, the sentence "Have you seen Bacurau?" became shorthand for hipsters, in the same way of "Have you heard of Bitcoin?" a few years prior.
- Moral Event Horizon: The hunters crossed when they killed an entire family in a farm. The bikers crossed it, too, when they killed Flavio and Maciel. Joshua crosses it when he shot a child dead.
- Signature Scene: Terry exploring the village museum and seeing the empty gun wall gets talked about quite a lot.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A minor case in the climax, but it can be easy to wish that Julia or Joshua swapped deaths with Terry, as not only did they die abruptly for being the cruelest of the hunters, Julia dying in Terry's place would have made for an Ironic Death where she's Together in Death with the one she had sex with following their previous kill.
