Baby and Me

  • Adaptation Displacement: In the Middle East, the manga isn't as well-known because it was never translated. This is unlike the anime that was not only dubbed in Arabic, but broadcast on a free-to-watch international Pan-Arab network. Many Arabs presumed the manga and anime were identical, and were surprised to find out that they weren't.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
    • In the Middle East, Baby and Me is one of the most popular anime of all time. No, seriously. Long after its initial airing, it still remains in fond memory for many, to the point it is the #1 most viewed anime on Spacetoon's YouTube channel. The Arabic dub significantly changed some parts of the anime, such as making the protagonist more protective and less cruel to his little brother, so that he would be likable to audiences, and rewrote the script to be more in line with Arab culture.
    • It was also popular in South Korea. The manga was reprinted several times and it received a live action film in 2008.
  • Superlative Dubbing: The Arabic dub of the anime added added many Arabic and Islamic references - for example, in the original Japanese version, Takuya's father is the owner of an alcohol shop. The Arabic dub removed this as most Arab countries are Muslim and prohibit alcohol.
