- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- Koh's comment to Aang that they'll meet again; was he referring to Aang in particular, or simply that the Avatar will inevitably come face to face with him again? He had, after all, talked about Aang wanting to kill him because of the actions of a past life, meaning the latter viewpoint is not unheard of with him.
- When Zuko tries to save Zhao from the Ocean Spirit, he refuses. Was this refusal due to him not wanting to live with the knowledge that he was saved by his rival? Or was it a rare act of wisdom and honor in not letting Zuko get himself drowned too? There's also the possibility that it had nothing to do with Zuko and that Zhao let himself be killed for other reasons, such as being ashamed of his failure or assuming that whatever Ozai might do if he got a chance to punish him would be worse.
- Franchise Original Sin: Aang fusing with the Ocean Spirit and going on a rampage is a case of 11th-Hour Superpower being used in the final episode of the season. Unlike the show's finale with Energy Bending, this doesn't break the show's internal logic established so far (it is effectively a very extreme form of Water Bending), and it makes sense that the spirit of the ocean would be incredibly powerful; especially with the Avatar being used as it's conduit. Meanwhile, Energy Bending wasn't hinted at until the very end of the show, and felt like it only existed to get around Aang having to break his morals and kill Firelord Ozai.
