- Alternate Character Interpretation:
- Some people believe Zuko's Rage Against the Heavens moment was not a desperate attempt to test his new lightning redirection move, but a passive suicide attempt after the constant failure crushed his spirit.
- Also, his words may not just be directed to the world, but might be what he wishes to say to Ozai. He'll eventually take and give something back to Ozai on the day of the eclipse.
- Genius Bonus: “Bitter Work,” the title of the episode, is a rough translation for “Kung Fu.” Given the fact that both Aang and Zuko are learning about different types of kung fu, the title is rather appropriate.
- Harsher in Hindsight: When Toph tries to get under Aang's skin by stealing his glider and using it to crack nuts. Aang is clearly uncomfortable by seeing it misused and abused this way and reminds her that it's a delicate antique that was handcrafted by Air Nomad monks. In the first chapter of Book 3, the glider becomes damaged beyond repair and Aang has to burn the remains so he can fake his death and go into hiding.
