Avatar: The Last Airbender - Azula in the Spirit Temple

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Three for Azula.
    • During one of the dream sequences, was the appearance of Ruon-Jian due to her regretting choosing Chan over him, or an inability to find differences between the two due to her asocial nature?
    • The same dream sequence also features an unscarred Zuko, suggesting he was never burned or banished by Ozai. Is this a sign that Azula genuinely loves her brother and would no longer enjoy seeing him get burned? Or does she just recognize his burning and banishment as the start of his path to opposing her?
    • In the ending, did she learn a sense of compassion or one of superiority when she saw her former followers reunited with their straggling friends and decided not to eliminate them?
  • Funny Moments: Sometime after getting knocked out and restrained by Azula within the temple, "Ty Lee" reveals herself to be another of the temple's manifestations by taking on Mai's appearance, causing Azula to complain to the temple spirit about being presented with yet another piece of spiritual trickery. The spirit just shrugs and grins, as if telling her "What can I say? It's my nature."
  • Jerkass Woobie: Azula absolutely deserves the Humiliation Conga she goes through in the book, and the spirit makes it a point to call her out that her Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse, but the flashbacks and illusions, as well as Azula's at times hurt and self-resenting reaction to them, still wind up being rather pitiable.
