Avalon (2001)

  • Subbing Versus Dubbing: Originally released in Polish with (Japanese) subtitles as the way the story should be experienced, adding another layer to the audience's alienation. Unfortunately, the English release came out with dubbing and a pretty thick-accented one, along with suffering from a too-literal translation.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: "Special Class A", which was supposed to represent the "real" world, is very much late 90s Poland, including specific car models, public transport, fashion and even Product Placement. It became incredibly dated just a few years after the premiere and unlike the rest of the film, can't be taken as part of the Ambiguous Time Period general aesthetics.
