- Fanon Discontinuity: For some people, they don't consider this movie canon to the original movie. It's less unanimous than with certain other Disney DTV sequels though since there isn't anyone that really hates it.
- Sequelitis: While some consider Milo's Return to be surprisingly engaging, that's only if you know that the film is just the cobbled-together remains of a cancelled TV series. For Disney's DTV sequels standards, everyone's in character, the various replacement voice actors are surprisingly good and the mysteries are intriguing. However, the overall narrative is very disjointed, the writing and jokes aren't as clever or sharp and the animation is immensely cheaper than the first film.
- So Okay, It's Average: It gets this treatment, being seen as sort of a mixed bag. It has engaging adventures and the characters staying true to the first film, but it also has an overall disjointed narrative, lacking script and, poor animation.
