- Catharsis Factor: The main appeal of this series is watching Asura punish absolutely vile people.
- Friendly Fandoms: Unsurprisingly, one formed with Death Note for their similar premises.
- Realism-Induced Horror: Despite the fantastical premise, the sinners that Asura judges feel horrifyingly realistic in their evil. Special mention goes to Raika's father: a man utterly delusional to his own actions, earnestly believing that he's "disciplining" his wife and child by practically torturing them. Whenever they protest or try to defend themselves, he dismisses it as a "mistake" that he needs to correct with even more abuse. He's so incapable of self-reflection that even when his wife and child run away in terror, he still earnestly insists that it's their fault for making him discipline them. Even if Asura does send him to Hell in the end, his arc still serves as a chilling reminder that there are people exactly like that in the real world.
- The Woobie: It's really easy to feel bad for a lot of the characters.
- Asura at the start of the story genuinely just wanted to help people. His mother was murdered when he was just a child, leaving him to look after his senile grandmother by himself. Despite not having any friends, he stood up for his classmate who was being bullied, only for the bullies to make Asura their new target, brutalizing him every single day. And if that wasn't enough, his bullies tracked down his house and murdered his dog just for the hell of it. It's really hard not to empathize with Asura when he snaps moments later.
- Otori is a sweet shy girl living with a negligent mother and is brutally victimized at the hands of her Alpha Bitch bully, Kyu. When Otori's classmates find her cute, Kyu beats her up in the bathroom and forces her to strip so she can send Otori's nude photos around the school, and then has her older brother rape Otori.
- Raika has been a victim of horrific physical abuse his entire life. Raised by a self-righteous and delusional father, Raika and his mother were constantly abused for "disobeying" his father by doing things like talking out of turn or trying to seek out professional help. It got to such a point where they were forced to run away. Despite her mom trying her best, she had sustained so much trauma that she's become a total Nervous Wreck who, in her panic attacks, will mistake Raika for his father and beg him not to hurt their son. And then his father tracks them down.
- Related to the above, Raika's mother wants to raise her son as well as she can, but the sheer scale of the abuse at her husband's hands has rendered her a Nervous Wreck who can just barely function in day-to-day life.
