Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion

Go To

  • Contested Sequel: While not many will call it outright bad, some people think that what makes it worse than Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods is lack of Goscinny's story in it, with the script being original and not exactly great. There are however also people who think it manages to be better than original, due to bigger improvement on humor and slapstick, better new original characters (which is already a Broken Base), especially a child character. At very least, both of these sides seem to agree that the climax in both of the movies are very enjoyable.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The last young druid the group encounters is... Jesus himself, or at least someone very much resembling him. While this did naturally spark annoyance in some circles, the majority of people very much liked the joke and thought it was the best part of the movie.
  • Director Displacement: Many people tend to forget the film was co-directed by Alexandre Astier and Louis Clichy and only think of Astier as its director, due to his fame as the creator and actor of Kaamelott.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The final battle involving giant monsters pays homage to the giant robot genre anime popularized. Asterix and the Falling Sky was infamous for being intended as anti-manga.
