Asterix and the Chariot Race

Go To

  • Funny Moments: As expected from Asterix, this book also has this in spades. The biggest one probably is when during the final part of the race, Mt. Vesuvius erupts and spits out a big rock. Naturally, Obelix is so fed up with all the obstacles they've encountered... he throws back the rock where it came from and stops up the volcano, amusing every member of the audience.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The name of the Roman driver, Coronavirus, refers to a certain type of virus... one the world would become very familiar with within a few years due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Not to mention Italy (the setting of the story) was one of the countries hit very hard by the pandemic.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: In northern Italy there is the city of Cremona, that in its early days spent eighteen years of the Second Punic War besieged by Hannibal's Gaulish allies, becoming the oldest Undefeatable Little Village on record... But the race doesn't pass there, wasting a chance to have Asterix and Obelix confronted with the fact they're doing to the Romans what the Romans did first to the Gauls.
