Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: While the scene of legionaries discussing how having only one god would make things simpler for them, rather than having "a bunch of gods", is meant to sound like an ironic conversation (and an accidental prediction of the rise of Christianity), the openness of the Roman soldiers to monotheism is not as out of place as it might seem. This is consistent with Ancient Rome's generally inclusive religious practices and their pragmatic, syncretic attitude toward religion. They were open to adopting gods and practices from other cultures, provided these did not challenge the state's authority or traditions (Mithraism is the most well known example).
  • Awesome Art: The animation quality really rose up after the last installment; try comparing the vibrant effects of The Secret of the Magic Potion to the more colourful ones in this series.
  • Ho Yay: Asterix and Obelix's explanation in their first encounter with Apothika reads as a couples' therapy session in all but name.
  • Love to Hate: Fastandfurious is probably the most intimidating villain in the entire Asterix franchise, but his rather chilling performance, and use of exploitation makes him such a joy to watch.
  • Older Than They Think: Some believe this is the first Asterix animated series. But in reality that title actually goes to Dogmatix and the Indomitables which premiered three years before The Big Fight.
  • Woolseyism: In the Polish dub, Apotika is renamed to Apoteka, better mimicking the German word for "pharmacy", "Apotheke". Instead of speaking with a German accent, she peppers her dialogue with much more Gratuitous German than she did in the French version and her apology about the accent is changed to her apologizing for mangling the Gauls' language.
