"D.W., the Picky Eater"
- Accidental Aesop: Teach better behavior in the house before you go to a public place. While D.W. has complained about food in public, Jane was able to curb her before when they had lobster. If David had been less easygoing about D.W. refusing to try his new foods, or at least tried to teach her that if you don't want to eat what's in front of you, you leave it, maybe she wouldn't have reacted as badly.
- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- Thora says that if D.W. can't come to the Once Upon A Restaurant, she may as well celebrate her birthday at the Read's home because it won't be the same without D.W., let alone a "happy birthday". Thora means well, but this means she's oblivious to how hurt and angry both Jane and David are for their toddler daughter having an unreasonable tantrum in public, which should be the bigger priority than whether a kid can attend a birthday party. Could it be that Thora was trying too hard to please everyone, including D.W.?
- Is D.W. that oblivious that she would be missing out on a good time, considering Arthur pointed out the unicorn and princess at the restaurant? Or did she accept that she wasn't going, hence her resisting Arthur's schemes to convince her to try a new food?
- The waiter at the Once Upon a Restaurant has a very similar design and voice to the waiter who angrily quit his job at the unnamed restaurant at the beginning after D.W.'s tantrum. He gives a visible sigh of relief when she likes what she ordered, expressing what everyone at the table is feeling. When he mentions the recipe of the Little Bo Peep Pot Pie, could he have been lying about the ingredients including spinach to trick D.W. into liking the food that sent her into a rage the last time he saw her? The fact that he pauses when he says "lots and lots of...spinach" strongly suggests this.
- Fridge Logic: At the first restaurant, why was a spinach-based salad ordered for D.W. in the first place? Mr. and Mrs. Read know she doesn't like spinach, and D.W. certainly wouldn't have ordered it herself if she knew what was in it. Were the ingredients of the salad not listed on the menu?
- Memetic Mutation: D.W.'s tantrum at the restaurant. The scene is popular enough to have several edits and parodies of it made online, sometimes even mashing it up with the famous "THIS! IS! SPARTA!" line from 300.
- Squick: The scene of DW spitting out the peanut butter and spinach sandwich onto the camera, which looked a little too much like she was vomiting.
"Buster and the Daredevils"
- Squick: The scene where Buster is dared into giving Francine a Forceful Kiss on the lips. Remember that both characters are only 8 years old. No wonder Francine was pissed.
